Back to work in 2019. Time to get a little nuts and use up some ink!

Where did you source this gigantic Kaweco nib unit Zaddick?

I would be interested what width of line this baby lays down. Generally the 14c Kaweco/Bock 060 nib series seems to have a wider tipping than their stainless series. But, the're no markings on this nib as to what metal it's made of (or maybe the stamping is hidden under the 2.3?).

That should be a steel nib from Kaweco's calligraphy set. These come in 1,1 mm, 1,5 mm, 1,9 mm and 2,3 mm with white or black Kaweco plastic Sport pens.

You are right Julie. Initially that's what I thought too. The calligraphy set nibs are un-tipped AFAIK.

Perhaps the gold finish (plating) fooled me.

Yeah, it us from the calligraphy set so not expensive. Just plain steel. A good way to have fun on the cheap.

Wow. I don't get that sort of sheen out of Tsuyu-kusa (although I like the ink a lot, and think it seems to be underrated).

I've sent a pen to be fixed up and ground to a cursive italic, and that got me thinking about adding oblique angle to the nib--or not. I'm right-handed, and I tend to rotate my pens about 45 degrees clockwise, tilting them to the right a bit to get proper nib contact for flat-tip nibs. Thus my stubs and cursive italic nibs always write without full noticeable line variation than they could be if I held them "properly".

 

Easy-to-demonstrate example below: Lamy Safari with a 1.5mm stub nib does make it quite easy to hold the pen properly without rotating as well as hold the extra wide flat nib at correct angle to the paper, but my pens with round grips put me back in my bad holding habit territory.

I've done some tests with a plastic credit card strip approximation of right-oblique italic taped to a pencil, and it seems like a 30-degree oblique would make my bad-habit rotated writing look like the proper italic writing. But I think I might prefer more legible style of the bottom line above.

 

So I'm curious, for all the stub and italic broad-nib users out here--do you rotate your stub/italic pens, and do you prefer the look of rotated results or "proper holding" results of straight, non-oblique nibs? I suppose one could also get the same results by getting an oblique nib and holding it properly without rotation. I suppose a straight non-oblique nib would be most versatile as I could still get both writing styles with or without effort.

Hi Zaddick , after all those broad broader broadest shovel nibs that you have hoarded, what else remains left on the earth that you need to get in gear ??? We are curious... lol

 

That plain steel 2.3 Kawco is for doodling or clearing the snow ? :lol:

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
