The one Bexley stub I have is my most used pen for the past two years.

 

 

I wish mine wrote. I'm on my second 18k stub and neither of them are writing at all.

I had to send mine to a nibmeister. Turns out a bunch of those 18k stubs were baby bottoms from the factory.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Time to start posting again. Today I am showcasing an Edison Menlo with a pump filling mechanism. The pen uses a vintage inspired acrylic that is interesting becuase of the depth of the materials and the subtle red and cracked ice portions. But the star of the show is the 18K JOWO B nib that the original owner (another member here) had ground to a nice CI by Richard Binder.

Why do i like this pen? Besides the look, the pen is super easy to clean because you can take it apart to rinse it out. Cleaning a pump filler can be a pain, but this makes life easy. The nib is stellar and goes to further highlight the quality of Binder's work. Go see him at a show if possible.

This nib is a customized Pelikan M1005 nib. It was retipped to 1.4MM and then stubbed. Quite a change from the original F. Apparently there were issues withthe retipping so it took a lof of work to get the nib usable. It went through two nib smiths before finding a home with me.

What do i like about this nib? Like all M1000 nibs it is soft and wet. This one is not so wet I cannot handle it (I have had some in the past with too much flow), and of course the extra width is very enjoyable. it is a good way to use ink. What I don't like is a quirk of the retipping process that causes the nib to spray ink droplets if you move too quickly moving from right to left on a horizontal stroke. If i try i can get a pretty goos spray of fine droplets like a spray bottle. I just have to slow it down a bit and there is no issue. Maybe it would be good for takeing an exam next to someone I did not like wearing a white shirt? :D

A new toy arrived recently. Attached to the simply elegant Sailor King Of Pen is the Nagahara Cross Point. This is the little brother to the King Eagle nib and the big brother to the Naginata Togi. Sometimes the middle child gets overlooked, but this nib may be more the "just right" size for this Goldilocks.

 

You can get a lot of different usable line variation out of the 4 tipping surfaces. For practical purposes I can write comfortably as an M/B at a high angle and then an closer to a 3B at my normal angle. Here is a sample with what the nib can do.

Of course, more of the variation is on the horizontal strokes as this is basically a jumbo architect point.

Why do I like this nib? All the line variation, the fact it is an architect point, and the consistent ink flow without creating puddles on the paper. This is a fun way to use up ink while still being usable for work notes.

Today I have inked a pen that is unassuming on the surface with classic looks, but inside the cap hides a golden treasure. I have liked the original vintage Sheaffer Balances and when the Balance II pens came out I loved all the beautiful colors. Unfortunatley they beauty was achieved with compressed acrylic and the materials tend to develop fractures where thin like on the cap lip or the clip. I sold off all my Balance II pens before they cracked (and I hope they never do for the new owners), but i still liked the shape. I saw a plain black resin Balance II come up for sale with a customized OB nib (left foot at about a 20 degree angle). I gave it a go and have been enjoying the pen. It had been tuned for good wetness and provides enjoyable line variation it a lightweight package.

Why do I like the pen? Classic shape, a pleasurable writing experience with good variation and wetnes. Hard to beat for the price and easy to use unnoticed.

The Osmiroid B4 nib is 2.5 mm. They made even broader italic nibs, but those are very hard to find.

That works. I really like that texture.

Thank you, GP. Among the few dozen Targas that I have this is the only one that has slightly upturned nib. I like both the finish as well the monster nib on this pen.

Thank you! It needed just a light kiss from fine micromesh to cure a hint of baby's bottom that was causing some hard-starts and skips, but now it's doing exactly what it should: laying down ink like a firehose! I love this thing!

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
