These are gorgeous pens. I had no idea Sheaffer made such beautiful pens. I've always been a Vac fan, but now I'm finding Sheaffer to just as beautiful. I may have to start collecting these just to show off.

I've gotta say that Circuit Board WASP looks like a Gray Pearl example, Jim. I have here a photo of a Green Pearl in large next to a Gray Pearl oversize.

Just to confuse the matter, . . .

And here are a couple Vac-Fil models from my WASP collection:

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Hi, Folks,

This a Sheaffer WASP fountain pen in a wavy burgundy and black marble celluloid c. 1937. This 4 15/16 inch long lever filling pen features a gold nib stamped WASP over MADE IN U.S.A over 3. The barrel is stamped WASP PEN CO. INC. over Ft. MADISON, IOWA, U.S.A. The trim is gold plated. There are WASP Addipoint pens made very similar to this example. WASP is an easy to decipher economy sub-brand of Sheaffer as it stands for W. A. Sheaffer Pen.

Hi, Folks,

This is a Sheaffer WASP (W. A. Sheaffer Pen) Clipper in Green Lahn made probably c. 1937, based on a 1937 advertisement that calls this version of the pen "new." Sheaffer changed the Clipper design in 1938, so it's possible this pen was made only one year. This 5 inch long pen features a patented laminated celluloid design consisting of three layers, a base material, a web of metallic threads and a transparent top layer. This was U. S. patent 2081538 awarded to Fred J. Hoarle May 25, 1937. The celluloid is a spiral wrap. It was also made in brown. The trim was gold plated. The nib is a warranted 14 karat gold number 2, probably a replacement. The barrel is stamped THE CLIPPER over WASP PEN CO. INC. over FT. MADISON, IOWA, U.S.A over PATENTED IN U.S.A.

Hi, Folks!

This is a WASP Vacuum-Fil fountain pen in green and brown marble celluloid c. 1936. The cap and barrel are made from spiral wrapped sheet celluloid and the seam can be easily seen. Sheaffer changed the name of the Vacuum-Fil Pen Company to the WASP Pen Company in 1936, WASP being an acronym for W. A. Sheaffer Pen company. This 5 inch long pen is a lever fill type. All trim is gold plated, though showing a lot of wear. The barrel is stamped WASP over VACUUM-FIL over FT. MADISON, IA, U.S.A. The gold nib is unhallmarked and stamped WASP over MADE IN U.S.A over 2, the nib size.

Hi, Folks!

This is a WASP (stands for W. A. Sheaffer Pen) Clipper Junior fountain pen in Brown Pearl c. 1938. This 5 inch long pen is a vacuum-fil type where the celluloid has translucent ink view stripes running down the cap and barrel. The exceptionally interesting celluloid was probably sheet stock rolled into a tube. It has a gold plated clip and cap band. Sheaffer advertised the unhallmarked nibs as solid gold and were probably 12 karat. It’s stamped WASP over MADE IN U.S.A. over Junior. The barrel is stamped THE CLIPPER over WASP PEN CO. INC. over FT. MADISON IOWA, U.S.A. over PATENTED IN U.S.A. The black end cap has to be removed to access the plunger. The cap top is also black. Examples with this striped celluloid and brick pattern are known in brown pearl, green pearl and blue pearl with gold color trim or gray pearl with silver color trim.

Photographed with a c. 1924 Illinois Watch Company "The Garland" movement 14 karat white gold filled case pocket watch.

Picked up this Oversized WASP "The Clipper" with a #7 nib that appears to be a semiflex Fine on the normal side, and an XXF on the reversible side. Writes really well as I've been trying it out with some Montblanc Irish Green.

Shown in the middle of this line up to compare its size, next to a Sheaffer Imperial IV as well as a Sheaffer Balance (Standard Size) in Ebonized Pearl Flakes with a Vac-Fil. (Waterman 55 on the far right, and a standard size Wahl/Eversharp Doric on the left with a #4 personal point nib).
