Uncommon Parker Vacumatic Candy Stripe

This is the first "Candy Stripe" we've had. Our photos are a little greenish, but we're sure this is the brown one. They were made in England from some of the hatched stock used for the Valentine and Victory pens.

Some of the features and details on this pen are rather unique, so we thought you might enjoy seeing some photos.

Likely made by Valentine. Show it to Dayne.

congrats on finding this truly rare vac. i found mine some years ago, obscured in a lot of odds and ends being sold out of ireland on ebay. but it was nothing like the pen i knew it to be, and brought it back to.

here it was, in parts:

thankfully most of it was there, and i was able to find the model-correct parts, and put it all back together (note that the section and blind caps are, unusually, ebonite):

one rather common flaw these recent finds show is the shrinking of the cap just below where the clip screws on. it's in my pen and in the OP's above. other than that, it's quite eyecatching as vacs go. i imagine an example in good shape would fetch a pretty penny.

thanks. the clip came with the pen, and i've seen that "split-feather" clip as well on other candystripes, so there were two versions. from what i've also read (mainly from david i. on the fountainpenboard), the OPs brown candystripe is even harder to find than my red one.

there's a nice pic of candystripes here:

Was this by any chance an eBay UK find, Teri? I glanced at one that ended there in early May for an unbelievably low price. Thought about throwing in a bid, but I wasn't aware at the time how scarce/valuable they were. It had a similar spot of transparency at the top of the cap, which also gave me pause (seemingly common on these). Is the celluloid beginning to crystallize there, you think?

Nope, this one was found in the wild in Northern California by our inestimable Nivardo. There's a marked border between the transparent top and the hatched remainder of the cap, so it's a distinct material like they did on Waterman 100 year pens. Which is not to say it doesn't have the potential to crystallize as we know Watermans do. The other colors don't seem to have this semi-transparent piece.

Interesting – I do see the clear line of separation between the transparent and opaque parts (which also seems to be where the inner cap ends?). An extraordinary find. Still kicking myself for letting that other one get away. Rare birds, these!

I thought I was pretty much done with Vacs -- had all the colors I wanted, with the exception of maybe getting a larger size Azure Blue Pearl (mine's a Sub-Debutante size). But now yinz have all gone and started showing off pen porn again, specifically of the Candy Stripe variety. So not fair....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
