Ink Combination For The Daily Use

Scabiosa is one of my absolute favourite inks. This is the best I can do for a photo. (I've just inked a tonne of pens up with various shades of brown otherwise I'd have down a writing sample of them side by side).

Thank you very much for your detailed ink combinations! Your photos and combinations are excellent. I know most of the inks and have some of them and I have to admit that I am fascinated of your lie de thé-arrangements with orange indien and myosotis! I never tried the out in combination although I have all the three. They look great together. And also my favourite rouge hématite with vert empire looks very nice.

Thank you for starting the topic! Vert Empire and Rouge Hematite indeed look nice together, if a little too christmassy? Things get complicated with three combinations, brown / greens with oranges / reds and blues. Verdigris, the browns, the greens and tsuyu kusa seem to get along with everything else, ajisai and the oranges are very picky and incompatible (to me).

Sadly you deleted your post which I found quite interesting! Two-ink-colours-combinations are extremely interesting for me not just the red-and-blue combo but also green-blue, yellow-blue, grey-blue etc.

Hi Nicolaus,

Thank you; I reinstated it. :)

I had started pulling all of my posts last night... long story... best forgotten. ;)

If you like green/blue... you may want to try Diamine Midnight and Ultra Green... or something along those lines.

Not sure how well yellow inks will show up... but blue/yellow could be something like Asa, blue-black or Midnight, coupled with Apache Sunset.

Good luck with your quest. :)

Yes, it reminded me indeed of Christmas, but it is beautiful. And three ink combinations are very tricky and your combinations sound interesting, my standard is: Sailor blue-black, Sailor Chu-Shu, Sailor Rikyu-Cha. But for my blue-red-combination I have not found a partner yet.

No problem, Anthony! I just thought that your post is interesting. Apache Sunset is gorgeous - but I have to admit that I didn't combine it yet - a dark blue would be indeed a good partner.

Thank you. :)

When you finally decide what you're going to go with, please let us know... I'm curious to see what you come up with. :)

Week 25 of this year will see red! I chose Sailor Jentle Ink Oku-Yama which is a very elegant read with a gorgeous sheen and an appetising appeal ("Drink me!" "Eat me!"). However, red will be used for headings etc. and the baseline and standard remains Sailor Jentle Ink Blue Black.

Congratulations, Nicolaus,

You've chosen an interesting combination while remaining in the classic red/blue scheme. :)

Your petrol-orange-looks very nice! It reminds me of the Netherlands. Maybe because of the orange. Thank you! ... Petrol is a complicated colour for me - it gives me a lot of negative associations coming from my childhood - but on your paper with your handwriting it looks really beautiful.

I always liked ink combinations that use a golden brown ( Diamine Golden Brown, KWZ Honey, or Aztec Gold) with a nice green ( Diamine Woodland Green, Umber, Delamare Green, KWZ IG Green #2).

Currently I have been carrying two colors for about two months Diamine Wild Strawberry and KWZ Brown Pink, though I don't combine them too often. I also have been using Diamine Silver Fox for the past month. Thinking about it though they would all be very nice looking together!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

Your combinations sound very interesting! The KWZ inks are virgine soil for me. I haven't tested them myself yet. Thank you, JakobS!

Some of my favourite ink couples:

Diamine Red Dragon + Diamine ASA Blue (this is my No. 1)

Diamine Autumn Oak + Pelikan 4001 Dark Green

Rohrer & Klingner Alt Goldgrün + R&K Blau Permanent (an optimistic spring combo)

Diamine Pumpkin + Monteverde Capri Blue (vivid colours, quite aggressive)

Thank you, vojtahlad! Your ink couples sound very interesting and some of your selected inks are under my favourite inks: Autumn oak for example, your combination with Pelikan's dark green sounds invigorating.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste. Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet. Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away.... I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link.... Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
