Does My Fantasy Ink Exist?

For a while I've been trying to find a fountain pen ink which is close to that really deep indigo greenish colour you used to see a lot on tattoos. I seem to vaguely recall as a boy (more years ago now than I care to count), seeing something quite close to this in my older sister's office where she used to work, but she has no recollection of it, and just looks at me with a slightly concerned look when I broach the subject.

I know it's a real wild card, but I'm throwing it out there just in case anyone might have the faintest idea what I'm talking about. If anyone knows, it's going to be on the FPN. But I'd also be interested to hear of any ink you think should exist, but can't quite find.

Hello Nibson,

As for the tattoos, I'm not sure what to tell you; I'm that conversant with tattoos, old or new. However, from the color you describe... consider R&K Verdigris; Diamine Twilight; Diamine Teal or Private Reserve Ebony Blue... and in the words of the Immortal Scoob: Rots a ruck with your visionquest. :D

As for the fantasy ink: a replacement for Parker Penman Sapphire... often imitated, but never duplicated.

I would suggest you go to either Goulet Pens (https://www.gouletpens.com/ink-comparison-tool) or Anderson Pens ( http://www.andersonpens.com/Ink-Comparison-Tool-s/2529.htm) and look for the ink color that fits your criteria. It is hard trying to figure out what another person sees in their mind"s eye. The Goulet site allows you to search by color group and has swabs of each in the color group which is handy.

I hope you find the ink you are looking for.

Or, the Diamine Inks site in the UK

I know what you are talking about!

It must have been an iron gall ink, it dried quite dark black-blue with green coming through.

Once I was at my grandma's place, had some homework to do, and my FP went dry - she filled it with "that" type of ink colour. Dramatically different from my school Royal blue.... I remember the embarrassment of having the homework writtern in two colours.

The closest I was able to come is R&K Verdigris, though not exact match to my recollection of that "old tattoo" colour (btw, like your description of it , but not the tattoos).

I have yet to try few KWZI inks. Will update as the journey continues!

Glad I am not the only one with that vintage fantasy ink on my mind!

It's interesting that R&K Verdigris is mentioned a few times. I had pinned my hopes on this, and ordered a few bottles. It is indeed a commendable ink, and I do not regret buying it. But whilst it has something of the quality I'm looking at, it's not quite there. MSRedpen describes exactly what this colour is. So I least I know it's not a figment of my imagination - that's a relief. Thanks guys for the pointers and observations, I will keep looking and let you know if I strike gold.

Your description reminded me of FPN's very own Van Gogh Starry Night. There are a lot of other "traditional" blue-blacks that do the green thing as well.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.
