Uniball Vision Elite - Very Short Review

Hi,

I'm a stationary freak. I love pens, paper and writing (and write a lot if I'm not on a rush). After finishing university my usage has decreased, but I realized it so late that I have a gigantic stock of pen and paper. While I'm using fountain pens most of the time, not all of my paper stock is ideal for this. To take advantage of this situation, I use my rollerballs with them.

Recently I've found a UniBall Vision Elite Blue Black in the pile, started using it, and I think that I've found the perfect rollerball (at least for me). Many of us use rollerballs for various reasons, so I thought this little review may be useful.

  • Ink: It has Uni's super ink, which is pigmented, saturated and has rich color. Blue black's color resembles Parker Quink b/b; it's green tinted. The ink is also pretty permanent and eternal (fadeproof, waterproof, chemical proof, forge-resistant) which makes it suitable to sign things around the office. The ink tends to show through thinner paper (~70GSM), but doesn't leak to other side and make the back of the paper unusable.
  • Design: Disposable pens are not as handsome as long-life pens. Its grip also is also a bit rough, but its black body and at least not so flashy aesthetics make it understated. I really like its design for a disposable pen. Also, that rough-feeling grip is doing its job superbly. It's very Japan: awkward looking, but working very well.
  • Build Quality: It's a Japanese pen and higher-end disposable. It can take a beating a hide it well. Actually it's designed to be refillable so, it's very very well built for a disposable.
  • Inner Barrell / Feed: This pen is flight-safe, which means it can compensate the quick pressure change inside a plane, so it's very hard to make this rollerball burp or leak. This is important for me because, I don't want my pen, filled any kind of permanent ink to burp in my bag or pocket, and I cannot take my fountain pens with me because of this risk.
  • Writing Quality: The pen writes really smooth, with medium feedback, which I like. It can write for very long period without feeding problems. It has two versions .5 and .8 mm. Latter one is more of a signing pen, but first one is very suitable for note taking. Since ink is not lubricated, it's not gel/hybrid smooth, but smooth for a rollerball. Also ink flow is very very consistent.

Conclusion: It's a very dependable rollerball. A true work horse. Its ink makes it ideal for legal stuff if your fountain pen's ink is not the most ideal for the situation. I carry one alongside my FP to sign serious stuff, give to someone etc. Blue black is also nice, since Uni's blues are not the most beautiful for me.

This is my first review and I hope it helps someone.

Any questions, feedback, anything is welcome.

Cheers,

Hakan

Take the cartridge and find a better looking pen to use it in. Done that many times.

It's not possible with Vision Elite refills, because the refill also contains the grip itself. To enclose the refill, one will need a much thicker pen holder, which is too thick for my liking.
