Platinum 3776 Vs. Pilot Custom Heritage 91

Hello All,

 

Seeking advice and opinions on the two pens in question. I love my Pilot Custom 74, so the 91 seems like an automatic choice, but I'm intrigued by Platinum's Slip and Seal cap, (and I'm curious about Platinum's higher end offerings - so far, I've only used their Preppy's).

 

Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

I really like the Platinum 3776s. I have a number of them - not all are Slip and Seal. I have a Dark Briarwood that is a marvel in itself but does not have a Slip and Seal cap.

 

Just like the Pilot, you will get great writing right out of the box. As with the Pilots, the nib (which is fantastic 14k nib) is Japanese-sized, in other words one size smaller than U.S. or European brands.

Lots of differences. First is size. The Platinum #3776 Century (the just #3776 is a different size and profile) is shorter and wider than the Pilot Custom 74 or Pilot Custom Heritage 91. The Platinum pens offer the option of using standard international cartridges as well as the Platinum cartridges.

As of three days ago there was a new Amazon seller looking to drum up business by selling 3776 centuries for about $35 US. Mine hasn't come in yet so I can't say if it is legit or not, but at that price and with Amazon standing behind it you might just want to take the plunge. I love the one i already have with the soft fine nib. I have a hard medium on the way.

I am not seeing that. The least expensive Platinum 3776 is $68.97. The price you have sounds like the balance or cool model which is not the same thing.

Strange... I am using a browser on my Mac. I looked at each of the listings for Platinum #3776 Bourgogne and checked other sellers and still no luck. It could be all of his stock is now sold. Not seeing it with other colors as well.

Thank you for these pics... they were most helpful. I'm assuming that's the burgundy 3776 between a Sailor 1911 Large and 1911 Standard?

 

If this is the case, I think I'll have to go with the CH 91... I sold my 1911 Standard because it was way too small for my hands, even posted... and from your pics, the 3776 is pretty close in size to the 1911S.

Interesting... the 91 looks smaller than the 74 and about the same as the 3776. This may change my plans.

You might prefer a #3776 instead of the #3776 Century; it has a longer section.

I got a 3776 Century Bourgogne ( in December and it has been a daily user and constant rotation player since it arrived. (others used regularly are a couple of Pelikan M200's, and a couple of TWSBI's (eco and 580)

I'll let people know about mine as well. The seller I bought from was ATHAM GGD. Chartres 3776 Century for $36. If it's legit it's a check of a deal, if not Amazon is good about taking care of things.

I like the 91 over the 3776. I just think it looks better

Like them both, But, specifically regarding the slip-seal cap, it works as advertised. My Century pens all remain ready to write even if set aside from the current rotation for more than a month or two. Also, in my experience Platinum nibs have a little more feedback than Pilot equivalents, though never scratchy.
