Very happy with my seven, soon to be eight, Bock nibs. I'm what you might call a fan.

I went through a few Pelikans during the era when Pelikan were rumored to be made by Bock. Those nibs were terrible. I don't miss them a bit.

I've bought a fair few pens now with Bock nibs. *Most* of them wrote flawlessly, straight out of the box; a couple (including one memorable EF nib) were pretty poor. Bock's QC seems to have dipped in recent times (increased production pressure?), and from there it's very much a question of how diligent the re-seller is in weeding out the duds.

Twsbi did not buy the best level of Bock nib............there is at least 5 different nib-feed wholesale units.

They then bought JoWo....which some folks like better....don't know why....others not as much as Bock.

Bock started making Pelikan nibs in 1998 to Pelikans design...a new nib tip shape, more stiff. There was a lot of dissatisfaction with the new Pelikan nibs.....in they were different....outside the 200, fat, blobby and stiffer..................the then 1000's were semi-flex.

When Pelikan brought the Bock nibs back In-House....the 1000 was last.............the exact same complaints continued..............and unfortunately the semi-flex 1000's nibs made by Bock were not made by Pelikan...they made the 1000 into a regular flex nib........perhaps semi-flex was too soft for 18 K gold with ham fisted buyers.

Do look at my signature for a link to Bock's factory............wholesale items you can look up your self.

Viscounti does I don't know what.....but they do ruin a Bock nib.

There is a list that was up with in the last month 5 weeks with all the pens that now have Bock nibs on them.

No one ever complained about a Delta nib....a Bock nib on a Delta pen.....

Any pen bought on line was delivered by robot and kicking package tossing postmen.....and they were in a display carton.....not a mail proof carton.

Complaints....scratchy....right out of the box................none were bought in the store, where that would be fixed on the spot........

It's not Bock's fault Twsbi and Visconti bought the cheapest Bock nib unit...........it's not Bock's fault it was a mailed item and didn't come delivered on a mailman proof pallet.

Nemosine / Knox /Bock seems very different from JOWO. Jowo is much better.

I never got any pens with Knox or Bock but my few Nemosine pens nibs are horrible.

I have tried some nibs and only a few fine nibs of Knox and Bock write better without a problem. But Jowo is far better for me.

Bock makes various qualities of nibs in accordance with their customers wishes.

Bock makes nibs under their own name. They also make nibs for Visconti, Caran D'Ache, Eboya, Graf von Faber Castell, Kaweco. and others.

The character of a Graf von Faber Castell nib, for instance, is different that that of a Nemosine nib, which is different than a Visconti Dreamtouch.

I, of course, accept your preference. Personally I find Jowos to be unforgiving nails, and would take a standard Bock over a standard Jowo every time. My experience differs in that I have had zero problems/issues with Bock. Or Jowo, for that matter, other than not caring for their character.

Thankfully there's something out there to accomodate most tastes!

I have a rather big Bock M nib on a Kaweco Perkeo school pen and it writes very well. It is comfortable with an interesting degree of feedback.

My experience is that many Kaweco Bock 060 (#5) nibs require "tuning" to work well - and some #5 nibs are beyond redemption... I'd estimate that approximately half of the Bock #5 nibs do not really work well for me.

On the other hand, I've only had good experiences with the Kaweco 250 (#6) Bock nibs.

I only have one real "bock" branded nib (IIRC Kaweco nibs are bock and my F sport writes fine but my BB is awful) and it's a titanium M. It's got kind of bad baby's bottom.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

Interesting to note that a number of mid and upper market manufacturers are now fitting Bock #6 250 series nibs to their pens.

I've received 3 new pens fitted with #6's during the past few weeks and all have been great!

QA drive perhaps?

The #5 Kaweco Perkeo Bock nib is different from the standard #5 Bock nib used on other Kaweco pens, like Sport. Mine is in F size and also has very pleasant feedback to it and is quite springy. I love writing with that pen because of the great nib.

Comparison of nibs here (not mine), about 65% down the page:

https://www.pencilcaseblog.com/2017/08/kaweco-perkeo-fountain-pen-review.html

“The Perkeo has a really cool trick up its sleeve... Ok maybe it's not a real trick, but nevertheless I was quite suprised when I found out that the Perkeo nibs are slightly larger than the regular small nibs (as seen on the Sport, and most other Kaweco models), which means they aren't interchangeable. To make things even more surprising: the nibs on the Perkeo even seems to be better than the regular nibs!

Why would the nib on Kaweco's cheapest pen be better than all other -more expensive- models? It makes no sense, but I did find both nibs (a polished steel F and black-coated M) surprisingly consistent and even a slight bit springy (both characteristics the other Kaweco nibs don't have). They really are quite good writers.’

I concur with that observation. Perkeo now comes in all-black color.

Based on your experience with Perkeo nibs, I purchased the all black Perkeo with a fine nib. Wow, the Perkeo nib is exceptionally good!!

Thank you for bringing the pen to my attention.

I am totally satisfied with Bock nibs on my Kawecos, although only in Medium and Broad sizes - the Fine one was Extra Fine actually and very dry. The Broads on Sport and the Mediums on Perkeo are very wet and smooth as butter.

I also bought a Bock Fine nib from Beaufort in UK for my Jinhao 159 and it is absolutely fabulous!

Great! It really is a great little pen! I plan on getting an all-black one too at some point.

Dry thin nibs are solved by using a wetter ink and or a slicker paper.

Same with the reverse, too wet wide nibs, use 4001 and perhaps a 50-100% cotton paper.

A dry narrow nib was the reason I went to the then wet Waterman inks....in the inlaid nib was not one, one could widen with one's thumbnails.

*does the thread necromancy dance*

I've brought four Bock fine #6's from a supplier here in the UK and have had exactly 50/50 hit & miss with them.

All the nibs were purchased as 'upgrades' to Jinhao X450 and X750's, two of them have been faultless, the other two have been so scratchy that they literally scrape the top of the paper off.

Sound like misaligned tines. Easily resolved, as long as one has a loupe.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
