Best Refillable Rollerball Pen

Recommended Posts

I would suggest the Pilot Metropolitan rollerball pen or any Waterman rollerball.

The Metro rollerball seems like a pretty cool option. I like the size of a Pilot Metro and if it takes G2 refills, that's even neater.

I've come across "ONLINE" pens from Germany. I notice that they have a wide variety of refillable rollerball pens. I just made contact with the South African representative. Will keep the forum posted

any idea of where the official sellers are? I got an fp locally from perks. It looks like they sell units that you can use to convert existing online fps into a rollerball.

I refill Pilot Precise V7 rollerballs with Pilot Blue-Black fountainpen Ink (about $24/350ml on Amazon)- I put masking tape on a pair of needle nosed pliers and remove the nib section, fill the barrel in eye dropper fashion, then replace the nibs. I expect after doing this repeatedly one will eventually leak, but I haven’t had any problems with them in the last year.

Is the Kaweco Ink Roller the same as the roller ball?

I'm not sure about how Kaweco uses the terminology, but I do know that they used to have an "ink ball" that used fountain pen cartridges, but it has been discontinued.

Lol why go to all that trouble, when you can syringe fill a cartridge version? You can also use a converter with the cartridge version

I recently purchased the Pilot V5/V7 Hi-Tecpoint Cartridge rollerball.

The Pen takes Pilot cartridge refills.

I have not yet emptied one yet, but when I do I will re-fill the cartridge using a syringe, with some Non Pilot fountain pen ink.

The Pens come in 2 sizes..V5 and V7...and Blue, Black, Red, and Green colors.

I am suspecting the Pen may also take a Pilot converter although I haven't tried that yet.

The rollerball writes really well...

The V5 is supposed to be a fine, but I find it to be between a XF and a Fine...similarly the V7 is supposed to be a Medium, but I find it to be between a Fine and a Medium....

I am enjoying using them in those circumstances where a Fountain pen doesn't work well...but I still have the ability to use Fountain pen inks.

The V5 is a good pen, I have a blue one I removed the finish on to make a demonstrator. Pretty cool.

Monteverde engage, but difficult to come across now.

I got one as a gift this month. It seems to be available in the USA.

As far as best refillable? I have not tried the Herbin and Noodlers but the pen works fine. My brother who gave the gift said it's nicer than others.

No trouble-takes 15 seconds, and it’s nearly two years of weekly fills with no leaks.

I was lucky enough to get one in the UK from Amazon. I haven't seen them since though. It is a great pen but does write on the wet and wide side, so not for everybody.

What do you do for a living that you can run a Pv7 out of ink every 2 weeks?

What did you use to remove the finish, if I may ask?

So you can use acetone as long as you are careful, but it may leave a residue so the pen isn't completely clear. I'm pretty sure there are specialised solvents too that don't leave a residue, but I can't remember the specifics.

My favourite is a good old Mr Pens, Parson's Essential rollerball. Takes a fair few types of refills but at present mine carries a Piolt G2 in .38mm, a joy to write with for me.

"may our fingers remain ink stained"

Handwriting - one of life's pure pleasures

Another vote for the pilot v5! I just bought 2 and have one filled up with Noodlers baystate blue and another with Robert Osters Deep Purple. They do seem to feather a bit more on cheaper papers than my FPs with the same ink.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
