Yard o Led have recently (?) changed their ballpoint refills away from the standard Parker type refill. Anybody out there know which ones are compatible, or are they one-offs? Many thanks.

No Idea.

 

But I have previously had an issue with the vintage BP's not taking the modern type of refill. On that occasion I sent an email to the company and received a hopeful response very quickly (they offered to adapt my vintage pens for little more than the material / postage costs.

 

You might want to direct your question that way.

Depends on what refill your pen uses. If it is either of these refills, then A3-format refill like Schmidt 700M could work. Not sure, but looks like A3...

Hi rh968,

 

Did you find a refill that works? I love my Yard-o-Led ballpoint, but the Y-o-L refills are scratchy. I'd love to find a replacement brand that fits...

I have a solid silver Y-O-L ballpoint hallmarked 1960. YOL had a look at it and were unable to offer a solution so here it sits in its case - essentially scrap!

Have you tried the Visconti Smartouch 1.4 broad refills, Schmidt 9000 Easyflow broad refills, or Schneider Slider 755 XB broad refills? I used to use medium and, on occasion, fine refills but all of them felt scratchy. Then, I started looking for broad refills. Some refills are terrible no matter the point size such as Parker refills (Yuck! Absolutely terrible — poor flow and stiff feel!). But, I have found the Schneider 755 XB broad refills, Visconti Smartouch 1.4 broad refills, and teh Schmidt Easflow broad refills to be nice writers. Montverde Softroll super broad refills (comes in a nice blue and blue/black) and Monteverde broad ceramic gel refills (comes in a nice blue and blue/black) are all right as well.

 

I tried MANY refills in my search for smooth refills — some of these include those mentioned above as well as Caran D’Ache, Pelikan, Faber Castelle, Itoya, and Private Reserve refills as well as other model Schneider and Schmidt refills. Visconti’s older broad refill (1.4 broad and broad gel ink refill) were all right as were Schmidt 900 broad refills. But, currently, the smoothest refills with the richest ink colors that I have found are the above mentioned Visconti Smartouch 1.4 broad, Schneider Slider 755 broad, and the Schmidt Easyflow 9000 broad refills; the first two are my current favorites.

They're all G2 refills. They won't fit a Yard-O-Led ballpen unless it's a Retro or Astoria model. Please refer to the article I linked to above.

Oops — I left out the reference to Retro and Astoria models.

 

I meant to ask in a separate post if anyone had tried a Schneider 75 — in particular, a Schneider 75 B (broad). I mention this refill as I have some older model pens — which work with the Yard-o-Lead thin refill. I had search around for a less scratchy refill and found the Schneider 75 B. The share is similar exept that it has a flattend section rather than the thin ring. Just a thought.

Looks similar to a Caran d'Ache Goliath or a Montblanc? Do you have access to either to try before buying them?

Checked and the C d'A Goliath is 95mm long, 5.7mm diameter. MB's is around the same diameter and about 97mm long.

You could pull the plastic end plug out and hacksaw one down to size, and then replace the plug. I think the important area is where the barrel of the refill steps down to the point. MB's and the Goliath's are both longer than yours.

Yes I fear that there seems to be no realistic solution. Apart from the makers, I also contacted a couple fo suppliers and no-one seemed to be able to help.

 

Luckily I always prefer to use a fountain pen or a pencil when possible!

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
