Diamine Sapphire Blue: Staining Issues

Has anyone else found this ink to leave a purple tinge on their converters that is very hard to remove even with ammonia? I don't mind so much with converters but it makes me a little lairy of putting this ink into something like a TWSBI demonstrator.

Actually the TWSBIs are more stain resistant than other demonstrators and definitely more resistant than the converters.

If you want to get the stains out - try Vintage Sheaffer, Vintage Parker with Solv-X, Sailor Do you or Noodler's eel inks, whichever is located in your ink drawer or the least expensive to acquire. Stains will disappear.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I read a thread on getting rid of a stain caused by iron gall ink using vitamin C earlier today, and I've been wondering if it might also work for some of these blue staining inks such as Diamine Sapphire Blue and Majestic Blue.

Has anyone tried it?

Thanks! Not sure where to get the vintage with solv x though!

eBay is your friend, especially since it is already in the UK

There are usually some available on ebay uk if you do a search: Choose from Blue, Black, Blue-black or Red.

Some modern brands have Solv-X also. Try the other options though, I can try and find pictures.

My TWSBI demonstrator has been stained by Diamine ink.

Really, it will come out. Do a quick search here on FPN for Operation BSB.

I've found it to stain too. And it has a certain niff about it

it smells...

or perhaps more accurate, it stinks

I really don't mind the smell of any ink.

It may be genetic, like PTC at school, or Coriander (cilantro)

I have noticed that when mixing inks from different manufacturers, sometimes a nasty smells develops.

From my experience Diamine and J Herbin do not get along well together.

It stinks. It doesn't put me off my tea or anything but it has a stronger smell than most inks

I had never thought to shove my beak into an ink bottle but I have just had a sniff of my Sapphire Blue. You're right, it stinks!

Maybe my inadvertent dabbing of ink behind my ears was why I had no luck with the girls in my youth. I should have tried after-shave – behind my ears, not in my pens!

Cheers,

David.

Resurrecting this thread as I've recently inked my MB 146 with Sapphire Blue, switching from Serenity Blue, since the Diamine is wetter and feels more lubricated on the nib. I also like the more vibrant blurple color.

However I have noticed the purple staining in the ink window slits that Serenity Blue did not impart. Understanding that Diamine inks are more saturated in general, this isn't a huge price to pay for the smoother tactile feel of this ink on paper (to me) but I will have to see what flushing the ink from the pen is like.

I had a similar problem with a 146 and Diamine. I also had hard starts though, something needed to be done

I went to see the MB Boutique, I know the manager very well and he was always interested in other brands of pen that I had with me.

I told him about the staining, he took the pen and held it up to the light.

'Have you been using Diamine inks?'

'Might have'

He sent the pen to Hamburg, to their credit they did an amazing job, new barrel and a thorough clean and polish, it looked like new.

I know that MB inks are more expensive than Diamine but it is now all that I use in Montblancs with boring Parker in everything else.
