Nib Tuners In Uk

Anyone know anyone on here who does the above and doesn't charge a fortune. I bought a Ranga 3c with medium JoWo nib in the group buy and I think the nib has babies bottom as it skips on the downstroke. Is there anyone who can adjust for me. It is probably cheaper than sending to India.

Before resorting to a nibwright, have you tried the DIY approach. I am completely cack-handed but have found tuning nibs to be quite straightforward. I can't remember where to find the Youtube guides but I'm sure that someone else might offer a few links. I invested in a cheap 10x loupe (from my local camera shop) which has been really useful. I subsequently bought a 20x loupe, though it has not added much benefit.

John Sorowka is the universally acclaimed UK nib man but, as you indicate, the expense may not be warranted for such an inexpensive nib (which you can buy for c£10).

Cheers,

David.

Thanks. I need to check with a loupe, but am fairly sure that one tine is actually longer than the other! That and a serious case of ink starvation.

I've played around with feeds before, but I'd only want to do so in this case if I can get a replacement. I don't think I can for Visconti, can I?

I have been tuning my own nibs for a few years, I would highly recommend the video by Nathan Tariff (Mr Noodlers) and SBRE Brown. Both very good, clear guides. I experimented on some inexpensive Jinhaos and felt confident enough to cut them down to italics that are buttery smooth.

Have a go, it's part of the exquisite joy of using fountain pens. It's the cheapest cardio exercise I know!! 😂

Stock up in micromesh (superfine abrasive/ sanding paper) I bought some from eBay for less than £8 for 9 sheet going up from 1500-3000 grit.

Have fun!

Hi .

You could try this to solve your problem. It sounds bad but it might work. get some very fine emery paper ,as fine a you can get.

With ink in the pen gently rub the nib over the paper at your own writing angle and perhaps a few circular stokes .

It works for me .

best of luck

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
