But that's just looks, and it's hardly the most important thing. If I really like the way a pen writes, then I end up liking the way it looks well enough, whether it's the rather plain plastic on my Pilot Custom Heritage 92, the shiny chrome of my Montblanc Noblesse, or the "Makrolon" of the Lamy 2000. I don't think I've encountered any material that was too slick or too rough to hold comfortably, although I've run into uncomfortably shaped sections.

Believe it or not, I encountered both at once: the charcoal Lamy Safari. The glossy smooth ABS of a red one didn't bother me, but the rhino-hide finish on the charcoal, like a brand-new 1985 computer keyboard, is something I never hope never again to encounter in a pen. And anyone who has seen me recommend starter pens to newcomers knows that I warn that I know from experience that faceted and triangular sections aren't for everyone.

Remember that when you pay extra for "Italian acrylics".

But Italian acrylics really aren't any more expensive than acrylics made in Taiwann or other places. It's cheaper than ebonite, and way cheaper than celluloid and cebloplast. What "Italian acrylics" are you referring to specifically?
