Whats Our Favourite German Brand?

1. Mont Blanc

2. Pelikan (almost #1 but not quite as Mont Blanc pens are legendary, still a great product).

3. Lamy - Great bang for the buck but cant compete with the Big Dogs if price is Not considered. LAMY competes at a lower price level and is excellent at their price point.

4. GvFC - I personally have never cared for their designs.

Vintage.'30s-40-50-65.

I have more Pelikans (10 or so), then Osmia/O-F-C/Boehler (8), Geha (7) & MB (3). I do have a Soennecken Wet Noodle. I have singles of a few others that were mentioned here, and a few no names. Three Clippers.

If you count Austria, I have only two. Mid-late '50's. The ball points have the problems of the Ball Points of that era (I grew up then so know the teething problems of ball points of the time. A very small Cracked Ice. fountain pen indeed. Also Rusewe. Semi-flex 14K Bock nibs.

Semi-vintage are all but one Pelikans..........'80's "W.Germany" one 200, '90-97+ four. One MB '70-80 146.

 

Modern 605, MB Woolf, Lamy Persona....and a 1.5 Joy.

I think you know that "cucumbers " is a synonyme for bad quality. I think you fail and, by the way, you use the German flag for Austria.

But that is the beauty of German pens for me, they have good pens at many price points. The student pens are great for the money and I respect the fact there are so many brands.

 

I have a few Online and I guess I am lucky as they are not scratchy for my writing style.

 

Lamy makes great pens but they all skip at exactly the same point in my writing. I have had Lamy's since the early 90's and every single one performs exactly the same.

 

The brand I have a soft spot for is Herlitz. The mid-late 80's Tornado I have is a great example of a student pen.

Not a fan of Waldmann, otherwise all other major brands are just fine (FC, GvFC, Kaweco, Lamy, Pelikan, Diplomat). I would say for myself - LAMY (at least with this brand I have a plan to have all of their models)

Vintage: Soennecken and Osmia

Modern: Kaweco & Lamy, I have a Pelikan, but i'm not sure what I make of it. Once I test drove Soennecken it was over for everything else.

Mercedes pens were made by a man who once worked for MB....nothing to do with the cars...outside of latching onto the name....a common girls name in Germany. He was another of the Heidelberg pen companies....had a ware house at the train line of my small village outside of Heidelberg. It's a good solid made pen, good semi-flex nib.

Mine is a Frankie, has a Kaweco clip....good looking clip...but a Frankie.

Pelikan, Lamy, Diplomat. I don't think they are still around, but in their day, Senator made pens that could easily compete with and compare to Pelikan's, in fact, the nibs are interchangeable between my old Senator piston filler and Pelikans.
