What Pen Did You Finish Today?

Finished my Franklin-Christoph 02, Italian Ice filled with OMAS Violet. Will probably finish my Lamy Safari filled with Diamine Golden Sands tonight, too. It is time to put some vintage stuff into rotation, but I think I'm actually going to ink up three of my four Edisons instead (the 4th, in ivory celluloid, does not get carried about very often).

I finished two pens today: a Sailor 1911M with KWZ IG Turquoise and a Pilot Prera with Tsutsuji. I refilled both with the same inks (the Prera is always inked with Tsutsuji, because it matches the pen and performs so well in it).

Flushing out a Lamy Safari inked with Robert Oster Blue Sea...which I was using for the first time, and enjoyed very much.

Also, almost done flushing a Parker Vacumatic, which was inked with my current go to, Diamine Blue Velvet. It's taken around 24 hours to get clear water out of the Vac, but that's pretty much par, to get a good clean. I've had great fun using this pen, but it will be put away, as I've inked up an Aurora 88.

I now count 15 pens on the desk...but some of those are close to being written out.

Today's retirements...

CS 475 blue pearl, which was inked with Diamine's Blue Velvet.

Pilot Myu 701, also inked with Blue Velvet. I like the 701 very much, but it can be a tad slippy. Not as bad as some of the shiny metal sectioned pens, but it's there.

Almost time to break out the green inks. :)

It's a really, really stylish pen, though. Lucky you.

I used up the ink in one of my Jinhao x450 today - Pelikan 4001 dark green in a green marbled pen. Decided to keep the ink and change up the nib instead - the former M nib is now a nice, crisp, surprisingly smooth Italic; around 1.2 or 1.3 mm, I'd say. Turned the ink/pen combo from something that writes well and looks decent into something that writes very well and looks stunning, so that's neat.

I also used up all the Standardgraph violet in my Noodler's Ahab (read as: it decided to act up and spew ink again until the last few drops were gone as well). Cleaned it out, took out the filling mechanism and eyedropper-filled it with Diamine Saddle Brown; let's see if that solves some of the pen's many, many problems.

I decided to take my Pilot Custom 742 out of the rotation, it was almost empty when I flushed it out.

Not by choice. Went to use the Waterman JIF inked with Sailor Kana-cho Midnight and it didn't write; turns out the cartridge collar had split and the ink had leaked out into the barrel. This is the second time this has happened with this ink in this pen. I had an official Waterman converter handy so I'm trying that for the time being.

Onoto Magna, a beautiful big pen. I did not fill it much so its use was short. I will probably refill it sooner than in the ordinary course. It was also my first use of Visconti Blue which lived up to praise I have read.

I finally finished an eyedropper fill of Lamy Dark Lilac in my Franklin Christoph model 31, as well as a fill of Iroshizuku Kon Peki in my Pilot Custom 74 which has a hyper-broad Cosu nib on it. It's a ton of fun to write with, but even equipped with the Con 70 it can be empty in a few hours of hard writing. It's a crazy pen, and I love it.

Also finished a fill of Emerald of Chivor in a cultpens mini pen. I put a self-ground stub/CI on it, and refilled it with a medium nib and the same ink.

Finished up a Zen Bamboo Pen. I don't know who makes them (it's made in China), but it came with a Genius Iridium Germany nib. I believe that only the tipping was done in Germany, but all in all , it's a very nice pen and came with 6 different color ink cartridges. I used the violet ink that came with it, again, I don't know the maker.

I really enjoy this pen!

Asa Maya with Asa M nib, just finished the last bit of KWZ IG Red #3 that was in it while in middle of writing a poem....I wonder how KWZ IG Green #2 will contrast with IG Red#3 to complete it?!!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! My blue marble Phileas, which had Namiki Blue in it, ran dry. Rinsed out and refilled with the same ink, since none of my other pens are currently filled with Namiki Blue, and I prefer blue ink in my blue pen.

Medieval Lapis Noodler's Konrad. It had diluted Diamine Oxford Blue in it because I was too lazy to flush it out before now -- I just refilled the pen with distilled water.

I must say, though, that while you don't get the red sheen when the ink is diluted, it's still a great color blue even when highly diluted (just not as dark and saturated).

Waterman 52 with ESSR.

But I was testing MB Diamond....blue, and had to partially fill my 'true' regular flex M400 tortoise, '90-96...'97 they made no tortoise. It is an M....a good width. That is so often disrespected here.

The Geha 790 OB was a tad too wet for that ink. True* regular flex is drier and often is a better choice for shading .... depending on the paper.

So I'm back to 10 pens filled. I am striving to get down to 5-6 pens....so I can use up my inks faster. With my normal 17 pens inked....inks lasts ages.

I keep calling regular flex, 'true', in today's regular issue nib is nail or semi-nail instead of the old semi-vintage and vintage regular flex.....outside the Pelikan 200's nib.

Some folks coming over from nail, think it semi-flex because of tine bend and spread. It is not. It is a nice springy ride...sort of +, while semi-flex is ++.

I wrote my Pilot Custom 74 with Aji-sai dry. I like the combination, but I have way too many pens inked, so it will be put away until I've emptied out a few more pens.

Yesterday I flushed the Sailor Souten from my M805 Vibrant Blue and inked it with MB Midnight Blue.

I'm trying to find the right ink for the medium stub on this pen. I fear the MB MB isn't it either.

Four pens put away today.

A charcoal Lamy Safari M nib, which had been inked with Robert Oster Graphite. I've been using this Safari for four months shy of 10 years now, and it has been a good and reliable companion. What else is there to say. The ink was one of a few samples sent to me by the wonderful and generous, migo984. I'm not going to get into describing this grey, but it is eminently usable...and not without interest. This will certainly be in my next ink order.

A TWSBI Diamond 580 B nib. I came late to the whole TWSBI thing, as I was busy with other pens. So, I had read about all sorts of problems. Maybe I missed out on them, but I have four of their pens, which have undergone heavy usage...and, problems...what problems? Great pens. First time I used one, it put a smile on my face, and they have continued to do so. This pen was filled with Robert Oster Summer Storm. Is it grey, or is it blue? Whatever it is, I've enjoyed using it over the past 6 months.

A vintage Conway Stewart 58, in blue herringbone with a very nice, firm medium Duro 58 nib. A beautiful, classic pen. Was inked with Diamine Blue Velvet. Being a lever filler, it isn't as easy to flush out as the convenient converter pens, but being a Conway Stewart, it's easy enough to open up, remove the sac, and flush the section.

An 18111.com Falling Sakura in Night Sky. M nib. To me, this is one of those pens. It has that something special. I've had it inked with Sailor Sei-boku since last September, and it has performed flawlessly. Thank you Mr. Nakama, I really do like this pen. It's being retired in favour of a Franklin Christoph 02...which is another favourite pen. I shall be using the 02 to find a Spring green, and I'm starting with Diamine Jade.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
