Qotw - 2017

David,

Lloyd Reynolds had a name for the narrrow paper banners with calligraphy, designed to hang from trees. What was that?

Weathergrams. :)

Actually, I sent the original to a former student of Lloyd Reynolds who is a professional calligrapher and a pen pal.

Thank you for the kind words Prasad and Ken.

Lovely entries Andrew, Prasad and David.

Ken - I can look at your rendition of the quotation for hours. It is just lovely in so many ways.

My everyday italic hand. Please, more members, post! Post! Post! Let's keep this thread alive and happy.

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

My thanks to you, David. Borrowed your format for this shot.

Pens: Noodler Konrad Krakatoa w/ Goulet 1.1 mm Monteverde Midnight Black

Lamy Safari 1.1 mm Monteverde Red Velvet

Like the flow of the Monteverde inks, good color, great value (90 ml for ~ $15.00). A great everyday ink.

Randal

LJR published a book of his weathergrams, I think sometime in the early 70s. Matter of fact, I think I still have my copy packed away somewhere...

I would love to have more information about this publication - date, title, photos. The Cooley Gallery is working on reprinting some of the works of Reynolds and his students that are currently out of print. This might be a candidate.

Hi friends!

I suggest one of my favorite phrases for the next week:

Everyone knows, something is impossible. But then someone ignorant appears who does not know that it is impossible, and makes it!

Albert Einstein.

How for you?

I think I still have my copy, but if I do, it is packed away somewhere. If memory is correct, it was a large format paperback on the thin side and the text was all done in LJR's hand, no photos. I am in the process of going through my stuff and sort of moving, so if I come across it I will let you know.

I was looking for something on one of my bookshelves and discovered that I had printed out a copy of the LJR Weathergram book some time ago. The cover is indeed something like avocado green. The script is identical to the copy on the Haiku Foundation web site.

I wonder if it is still under copyright. I'll find out and report.

Hi!

If no one else wants to start, then I'll probably start first.

Nice drawing, Andrew.

There would appear to be many variations of this quotation with no actual proof that Einstein actually said it. This is the version which I was taught as a child, written here in an everyday Italic scribble

Thank you. The main thing is not writing but content and the essence is not changed :).

And you can write, as it is more convenient to perceive the one who writes.

Pen: La Kalligrafie, Goulet 1.1 mm nib

Ink: Bortoletti Nero

Paper: Clairfontaine Seyes Rule

This one was fun, used my everyday writer and ink, and a careful everyday italic hand. For those reluctant to join in, come on! Write, what do you have to lose? Have fun with the rest of us!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
