Disappointed With The Uni-Ball Jetstream

Hi there,

 

I'm not really an Pen expert. But I tried to finally find a decent pen for everyday use.

After reading many reviews it was pretty clear that the Uniball Jetstream seems to be what people use.

 

I bought a 10-Pack (only option available) of Uni-Ball Jetstreams (0.7) with rubber grip.

 

After testing it now I have to say that:

 

- it does not really dry quickly

- it smudges - seems to build up bubbles of ink, that are especially visible in thight loops (for example "e" and lowercase "L").

 

Did anyone have a similar experience? I'm very disappointed to be honest..

Nope, I like Jetstream refills, both in fine 0.7 and medium 1.0, blue or black.

Love the Jetstream, but only with the removable cap.

Could anyone with a recent model (0.7 if anyone has it) please add a picture of some lines of text?

I have to say I'm almost annoyed by these bubbles..

I've got the jetstream clicky in 1.0, 0.5, and 0.38.

 

The line is inconsistent, but good enough to be considered a functional pen, I suppose. They do feel pretty good on the paper, though (I was expecting the .5 and .38 to feel scratchy, but they don't).

 

I do not expect to get any more of these pens.

Clickies and capped pens have different refills and the capped versions are higher quality (build, refill, tip, etc.). So I think you should try a capped one.

Which refills are used in the capped versions? The one I have uses SRX-7.

 

Attached is a sample, marked those 'bubbles' with red dots in the first part.

I have a relative who is left-handed, and had problems with their hand smudging the ink.

After some research about this, the UNI Jetsteam was recommended as one answer regarding fast drying ink.

I have a few now, the 'clicky' version, and this is a sample from one of them.

I have seen the capped version in stock on the high street, but it much more expensive than the click top version, at £3.50 ea.

Looking closely at the line of loops, there are breaks in the line, it's not totally consistent.

I have some capped versions at home and will try to replicate the tests and post the results when I get back. BTW, I'm a normal writing lefty (no overwriting).

I have used bold refill Jetstreams for years, perhaps the postable cap model was stopped years ago? I still have about 30-40 pens remaining from when they were on sale years ago.

 

I use the refill in "brand name" metal pens, not sure if its a Cross or Parker or Diplomat that carries the 1.0 refill these days.

 

Please consider this is the cheapie line of pens and refills, so all i ask is that the ink flow not be interrupted or blot, for which Jetstreams have been very hassle-free.

I noticed that on amazon.com people are also complaining about the quality in recent years. Apparently it changed at some point.

I don't mind a higher price - I was just looking for good ballpoint pens and every site I came across (penaddict and the like) mentioned the Jetstream.

 

Not talking about the body itself, it can be replaced.

 

If anyone has an interesting link/review/comparison of better pens for me, please share.

As far as I know Jetstream is hybrid ballpoint.

I bought several of these newer hybrid pens out of interest, I believe the Pilot Acroball is the slightly better overall ballpoint, they are very difficult to find fault with, for what is a plastic pen.

I have them in black, blue and red.

Sorry I meant of course suggestions for better/higher price level rollerball pens, not traditional ballpoint pens.

ohhh... rollerball... typically not my cup of tea so I could barely recommend some typically the Pilot V series

A pity. Over here, Jetstreams are really common, and I've always felt like the Jetstream was a good writer, though a little bit fine and pointy for my tastes.

Give the Pentel Energel a try, very smooth gel ink, in a rollerball style refill.
