Review Of Two Heirlooms, A Windsor Pen And The City Pen

A while back I posted about a couple of pens given to me by my father and I felt for sharing a bit about these pens and do a review. Sadly one of them had a damaged nib and I haven't been able to find anyone to repair it. A link to the post: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/286451-introduction-and-some-questions-regarding-vintage-pens/

The first pen is called "The City" and reads "Selsdon (?) F.P. CO. LTD." and "Made in England" on the barrel. It's such a small pen with even a smaller nib. It reads "Warranted Quality" and "14 Ct 1 St". The pen has a lever filling system.

Even though it's a very small pen, it writes beautifully and even has flex! It even writes great when writing very small, so I guess the nib is fine. For this writing example I used an antique ink called "Gimborn", an heirloom as well.

The second pen is a "Windsor Pen 68". This one somehow feels slightly bigger and easier to hold, but is slightly shorter than the previous pen. This pen is marked "Windsor pen 68" and "made in England" on the barrel. The nib is quite "normal" in size compared to any other fountain pen I own. The nib reads "Warranted 14 Ct 1 st Quality" and has flex as well.

It writes great when writing small as well. For this writing example I used Diamine Imperial Blue ink.

I think "The City" pen has a slightly easier flex to it, but both are nice to write with.

For those who like to see a close up of both inks compared to each other:

The antique "Gimborn" ink:

Compared to the Diamine Imperial Blue:

The "Gimborn" ink feels a bit more watery. Both colors do compare, but the Diamine has a slightly more purple tone to it.

I hope this was informative and helpful!
