Cleaning Ink Stain From Carpeting

Iscribe

Recommended Posts

I discovered two nickel sized spots of Waterman purple ink on my light beige carpeting. Unfortunately, the stains are a day and a half old. Any thoughts on how to clean this out of my carpeting would be appreciated. Thank you.

Resolve carpet cleaner in the red squirt bottle. Worked on my old carpet 3 houses back. If they haven't changed the formula, multiple applications should get most of it. Be gentle and give it time.

Agreed, Resolve is great! Glad it wasn't BSB or it would take Chlorine Bleach to get it out (which would also bleach the carpet color to white)!

I had another of those moments occurring at a more frequent interval now, where I lost my grip on a Sheaffer while capping it and dropped ink on the floor. Resolve works. It is getting the Montblanc violet ink out. I am thinking increasingly of going to ballpoints.

capful of hydrogen peroxide works everytime .

Agreed. It got a sample of Diamine Grape off my beige carpet like it never happened. A curious three year old couldn't have us lose our deposit that easily!!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Then the wife will be using the Resolve to get blood out of the carpet...

At least it wasn't a cellulose reactive ink on wool flooring... apparently that reacts in such a way that the stain simply cannot be removed.

Maybe it is time to try a Vanishing Point with cartridges. They really do write quite well and you would be highly unlikely to drop one uncapped :)

Bit late for the OP perhaps, but if you're QUICK, ie realising what you've done as you're doing it like pajaro's refilling accident, plenty of plain cold water with paper towels can work well - wet the spill well, and blot up, don't scrub. It may not be as good, but by acting immediately rather than rummaging around for cleaners you may stop things getting too bad.

Of course, with an ink which isn't very soluble, or is very quick-drying, this may not work, but you will probably have blotted up the surplus and there'll be less to have to work on/explain to the wife.
