Krone Kronology Limited Edition

This is the Krone Couture Precious Metals Collection Kronology limited edition. Pen body is lacquered sterling silver with multicolored replicating crowns around the cap and body. Nib size is medium and is made from 18k gold. Limited edition number is 048/888. Converter filler.

 

 

Not many Krone pens are reviewed here, or perhaps anywhere. Many of the pens from Krone are more art than pen celebrating some person, place, or thing. Most of those pens are very expensive for a pen and even expensive for art, although the quality level is very high. According to Krone this pen has been designed to bring extravagance to my fingertips. Well, how about that?

 

 

About the size of a Montblanc 146 the Kronology is weighty thanks to the sterling silver body. Compared to many pens this is heavy but you can put it in a shirt pocket and balance for writing is very good. Overall, very solid construction and it really feels like a special, luxury product. One cool thing is that the cap locks securely into place. The cap screws on in 1.5 turns and right at the end the section seats securely into a pocket in the plastic cap liner. This prevents the unintentional opening of the pen. Very nice feature.

 

 

Normally, I'm not a fan of metal sections. That is a common refrain here, but this section is decorated with guilloche patterns that make for a positive grip and the flair at the end of the section provides a secure resting place for my finger. The nib is simply decorated with the Krone crown logo and Krone text. The medium nib writes smoothly from about any angle and flow is medium high. As expected there is no flex to the nib. It's a good nib and the pen is comfortable to write with for long sessions.

 

 

 

Essentially, this a pen with classic shape made to exacting specifications from precious materials (silver and gold). I think it does define a luxury product. The decorative logos provide a bit of color and whimsy. I'm sure the repeating crown logos are intended to evoke images of Louis Vuitton, which may not please all, but it does actually look pretty cool. This pen is a bit extravagant but manages just enough restraint not to be gaudy conspicuous consumption. Hard to describe really--this pen really sparkles in the right light but it also takes on the character of its surroundings. If bright it is bright, if dark it is more subdued. It's not cheap but there are many more expensive pens out there. Quality is high and writing performance is quite good. Highly recommended.

Ooohhhhhh! I love Krones. They write beautifully, honor the lifetime warranty, the materials are quality so you can use 'em daily and they're usable art. Wish I could afford more.

Thanks, yeah, I have/have had some other Krone pens, but never one of their higher end models. This is a really nice pen. Thinking of getting another; the Bold Daring Turquoise or the Brave Royal Blue are calling my name.

I love the nib and section, but everything else looks a bit too Lisa Frank, for me.

 

It would be a beautiful pen without the goofy crowns.
