Moray, Conger, Or Turquoise - Choosing An Eel

Recommended Posts

I have two Parker 61 capillary fillers that I'm auditioning inks for. I have settled on Noodler's Eels as the least painful to use so far and solicit your input.

A single color in a capillary filler lasts longer than many marriages. Which Noodler's Eel colors stand up the best to daily exposure over long periods of time?

Not this-is-a-really-great color but -this-is-a-color-you-won't-get-sick-of-in-a-few-weeks color.

The scoreboard so far:

Noodler's Eel Cactus Fruit - Nope

Noodler's Eel Gruene Cactus - Yup

Noodler's Turquoise Eel - Yup

I'm only buying samples so you're not launching me on a lifetime commitment.

Thanks

Noodler's American Blue Eel is an easy to live with ink color. I often have one pen inked with it.

as these are among the most difficult pens to clean (my experience and other threads), consider instead inks which can be cleaned out more easily. i have had good results with pelikan and skrip blue. if you plan to dedicate them to a single pen-ink combo, it's less of a problem, but experimenting will be painful.

I have both the green and turquoise eels but wouldn't want to use either of them daily, way too bright. That is of course my personal preference. If I had to choose one of the eels to use for weeks I would go with the black or blue.

I'd say the Turquoise and the Blue are the best for keeping in your pen for a while.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Gruene Cacus eel is lighter than the non eel version.

I prefer the non eel version.

IMHO, gruene cactus eel would not work very well with a XF/F nib, because of the lightness of the ink.

I am would NOT want to put lubricants into the capillary mechanism of the 61.
