Good Ink For Parker Vacumatic

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I know there are lots of threads talking about good inks to use in this particular pen, but I'd like to ask a more particular question. I'd like to know if one of the inks i already own could be dedicated to this pen.

I prefer a blue-black, and the ones I have are:

Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo

Pilot Blue-Black

Diamine Twilight

Diamine Mediterranean Blue

J. Herbin Perle Noir

I like blue-teals, so if these were not suitable, I'd maybe get a Diamine Teal/Schubert or Waterman Mysterious Blue.

What do you say?

I'd go for the Waterman Mysterious Blue as your safest choice. Richard Binder highly recommends it for vintage pens.

Personally....usually blue-black inks such as Montblanc..Pelikan..

Skrip..Quink....And more often than not Waterman's Blue-Black..

which is now called Mysterious Blue....

I have a Red Shadow Wave Vac and it's run for a year with Waterman Mysterious Blue in it with absolutely no flushing -- I just refill it when it runs dry or if I'm worried it will run dry. Even my Plum 51 hasn't been an EDC pen, because I tend to switch up inks in it and it takes a couple of days. But that Red Shadow Wave? Not a hiccup.

My problem now is to what to put in the Green Shadow Wave I got in June at the Triangle Pen Show -- I don't really want to be running WMB in two different pens at the same time....

Oh, and as for the "regular" Vacs I've had good luck with De Atramentis and J Herbin inks in those. The Silver Pearl Major has done well with D'A Tchaikowsky and Herbin Vert Empire, and I"ve put De Atramentis Red Roses (scented ink) in the Azure Blue Pearl Sub-Debutante with no issues.

I haven't tried it, but you might have a look at J Herbin Bleu Nuit -- it looks a little less teal than WMB is.

Thank you very much! So no pilot nor iroshizuku right? I'll get that waterman mysterious blue and stick to it ;). Do you have any suggestion of a teal ink close to Yama dori or diamine teal?

What about diamine inks? Will they be too saturated?

I use Waterman and Pelikan inks in my Vacs. They have proven to be easy to clean out. Parker and Sheaffer inks would probably be fine also.

I would NOT use a saturated ink in a vac. The problem is that the highly saturated ink dye will sometimes stick to the inside of the pen, becoming like a gel. And that will start to darken the translucency of the barrel. And cleaning a vac that has that kind of ink residue is DIFFICULT and a PiA. And don't ever let that stuff dry out in the vac, or cleaning will be even worse.

I would also avoid RED and PURPLE inks. In my limited experience, those have been the hardest colors to clean out of old pens. If you do use red or purple, don't ever let it dry out. And every few fills, cycle water through the pen and let it sit and soak, until the water comes out CLEAN.

What do you say about Pelikan edelstein tanzanite? I've found its quite similar to mb midnight blue and it shades beautifully. Will it be safe to use on vac?

Most modern inks are declared to be "pH - safe" for all fountain pens. I believe it. However, when my Parker Vacumatic was made, it was intended to use the inks available, at the time. I am, therefore, most comfortable with Sheaffer standard inks, Parker Quink, and Pelikan 4001. I find that Pelikan 4001 Royale Blue (Königsblau) flushed easily from sacs.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
