Parker 75 Nib Issue

Recommended Posts

Hi there,
I was digging in my baby box and found my dad's fountain pen from the 60's. It is a sterling siliver75 from Parker. The nib assembly is dodgy - see the picture. It looks like the pen was stored with ink in the nib part.

The gold nib appears to be glued to the black bit. I have run it through my sonic cleaner a few times now and it has not magically disassembled.

So, can I salvage the nib and just buy the middle bit? Or do I need a nib and middle bit? Where would I get such an animal?

thanks

Anne

Pix help us understand you better. But first you need to unscrew the grip section from the barrel, soak the grip section until the dried ink begins to disolve a bit. Once the ink is gone the nib and feed should just pull right out. Be very careful. the feed on the P 75 come in two types. It's easy to break them. So soak, soak, soak in water.

Check out the threads here for the different pen flushes, you can buy some, or make your own. you can fill your ultrasonic cleaner with a good mixture of 10% ammonia, 2-3 drops of dish soap, and water.

If the nib and feed are that gummed up, you have to be patient an take your time with it.

The Parker 75 is an excellent pen, you should be able to do this if you take your time and don't try to force things. You might also check out you tube. There is most likely a tutorial on cleaning and disassembling this pen.

Hi there,

Sorry - thought I had attached this picture - my original was too big. You can see where the nib is broken off from the holder.

Thanks

Anne

The most straightforward approach would be to get a new nib/feed assembly and install that after removing the remains of the feed that are still stuck inside the gripping section.

Beautiful pen, a new feed will do the trick, you can save the nib, your feed is broken so just try to remove the piece of the feed that is attached to the nib bit by bit until it's all gone, then remove the remains of the feed that is stuck in the barrel, assemble the nib to the new feed and insert in the sections and you are done.

Please note that all this is what I could have done, you will do everything at your own risk.

Best regards.
