New Online Ink-Comparison Tool

Recommended Posts

Just today Anderson Pens launched a new ink color comparison tool that supposedly will make it a bit easier to compare inks side-by-side: Link to tool

It's pretty easy and rather fun to use :)

Here's what a quick selection of purples (out of like 30+ options) looks like.

I like that it shows properties/price next to the inks as well.

I can see this being rather useful.

Looks good, I always wondered how my Parker Penman Emerald would compare to some modern inks I'm using.

Some colours seem to be a bit off (like Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu, I suppose), but it depends on so many factors that no one is to blame.

Yeah it can be anything from the lighting when the photo was taken, to if the photo was white balanced all the way to how color calibrated your screen is. I'd say anything with color online should be taken as an indication and not gospel. It's a fun tool though :)

I played around with this a bit and think it's a great tool. That being said, I can't help but notice the different white balance between samples. Take for example samples #2 and #5 in the original post. The white background in these two samples is noticeably darker than the others.

This is still a terrific resource as long as I turn down my OCD.

Thanks. I find some of their color representations to be inaccurate, but the comparison of prices and ink properties is very useful.

Thanks for sharing this and it's nice to see another set of comparisons and opinions.

Ooh, it has price per ml, I can stop doing that manually! (Though something seems to have gone wrong there for the Cross ink...)

Thanks for the link. I played around a little bit and I think I will get back when I want to order some new color.

One thing I would appreciate: Moving the five color samples around if I want to change the order. Side by side shows differences simply the best. But its already a great tool.

They have been working really hard on this - so try it out!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have found this very useful once I have a reference ink for a group. However I am also trying to select a couple of reds for which I currently have no reference. Seeing how other known colours appear from the same manufacturer provides a tenuous but still slightly useful reference. As Mulrich mentioned one also has to keep an eye on the backgrounds for corresponding white balance. Although (or perhaps because) I am no colour expert, I find this very useful for comparisons. It brings out which red is pink or orange, for example. I do not rely on it for true colour given I go to other sites and see something different.

I found that swapping menu selections (in lieu of click and drag) was OK for moving colours around.

That is probably the brown-reddish sheen you get when using a wet pen (in this case probably a wet Q-tip).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
