Non-Staining Light Blue/turquoise Inks?

Recommended Posts

I've recently became a fan of light blue inks through Iroshizuku Ama-Iro, but Iroshizuku inks are not the easiest to clean and not the most trustworthy in the non-staining department, so do you guys have any recommendations for light blues that definitely won't stain? I'm not crazily concerned about staining like collectors are but minimizing risks is always good!

Some inks I have in mind: Waterman inspired blue, Pelikan 4001 Turquoise, Edelstein aquamarine or topaz. J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche, Diablo Menthe.

All thoughts appreciated!

Diamine Aqua Blue. Somewhere between blue and turquoise, and easy to clean with zero staining.

Those are good inks to know! But I'd rather stick with the big pen manufacturers' inks or J. Herbin, just to be on the safe side. Any idea on those?

I would suggest L'Artisan Pastellier Callifolio Bleu Pacifique or Bleu Atlantique. I have used both of these for months in various pens. They have clean out nicely and do not stain.

Montblanc Diamond SE ink. Hard to find, but just fits your bill and it's gorgeous.

Hi,

SST remains one of my go-to inks, especially in pens with ye olde plumbing, (not c/c); though I wish Pelikan E. Topaz came to market in Sterling Silver hogsheads. :)

Inks from other pen manufacturers, such as OMAS and Visconti, are worthy options. (So sorry Rubbermaid Waterman-Parker.)

There is a lot of nuance in that range of Hues, so even though one might launch their voyage of discovery after considering online depictions and suggestions of enabling Members, only your perception of ink-on-paper will determine if you've found inky booty.*

I use Lamy turquoise all the time and like it very much (esp. the red sheen it has on Tomoe River paper). I also use Monteverde turquoise cartridges, which I also like a lot.

I really like the Monteverde Turquoise. It's bright, happy, lubricating, shading, and I've had no trouble with it.

I love Lamy Turquoise. It's one of my go-to inks, and it's always in at least one of my pens at any given time.

Diamine Steel Blue and KWZI Iron Gall Turquoise are nice options.

of course, pen hygiene is important with an IG ink, but I have never had it stain. And I have used it in a demonstrator.

Steel Blue is in the turquoise family, and again never an issue staining. And it cleans out easily.

Why?

Pen manufacturers generally rather have their inks on the safe side than bold beautiful yet potentially high maintenance colors, the former is the quality I seek.

Of the ones you mentioned, I had a sample of only one, the Waterman Inspired Blue. It was nice, and well behaved, but bland to my eyes. Such is why I stick to Noodler's or Diamine when I'm concerned about performance factors. Never had a staining issue with either brand, but Diamine, especially the Aqua Blue, clean very easily with no staining, even in my vintage pens.
