My search for the perfect brown has come to a conclusion. I did try the Montblanc Toffee Brown. Although brown, it wasn't quite what I was looking for. I finally settled on the Diamine Chocolate Brown. Although it seems too dark in some applications, depending on the pen and paper it is just about as close as I think I can get to what I had in mind. Thank you to all those that took the time to offer suggestions, they are appreciated. I think I tried out about 14-17 samples of browns. Some quite nice, some nothing like I thought they'd be. But it was fun. I wasn't a big fan of browns, I just wanted one to fill in my brown niche for when the urge struck for a brown ink. I now like brown inks more than before, so the Diamine Chocolate Brown should be getting a workout. Anxious to see how it looks in my new TWSBI Eco 1.1 stub.

Yay! . . . although the word "settle" unsettles me B) I've a sneaky feeling you'll be trying others . . .

I too favor Diamine Chocolate Brown, but recently tried a sample of Akkerman Bekakt Haags #23 and found I like this ink better. Many people think Diamine Chocolate Brown and Akkerman #23 is the same ink, but I feel that side to side I like the Akkerman #23 better as it flows better and has just a shade richer coloring. Not by much mind you, but its' there.

When I want brown with a touch more red in it and a little bolder line I choose either Diamine Macasser or Montblanc Toffee Brown. These two are slightly lighter brown than Akkerman #23 and with little pinch more red tones to it.

McKool, regarding the Diamine Macassar: this placed second in my search for the perfect brown. Just finished off a pen full in my Pilot Elite (F). I like it for a slightly less rich brown, though I didn't note any red in it. That's what knocked a lot of the browns out of my choice, I hate obvious reds in my browns. The Diamine Chocolate and Macassar fill my brown niche quite nicely but I will keep an eye out for the Akkerman #23. If it's darker and redder than my current favs, though, I'd have to give it a pass. That's what's so great about this "hobby", there are so many people giving insight to what they find working for them and pass it along. Best of luck with your Akkerman #23 and enjoy. Thanks for sharing.

I'd like to put in a good word for Iroshizuku Yama-guri.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

ETaylor33:

Pop over to Vanness1938 pen shop and try out a vial of Akkerman #23 for about $5.00. Best way to see if you like it or not. I've probably tried 15 different vials of ink from them so far. Great place for harder to find ink.

#23 is Diamine Chocolate and a well loved ink.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
