Where To Find Replacement Nibs?

Hey, I'm considering getting my Pelikan M205 treated with a italic nib by an as-of-yet unchosen nibmeister but the current nib on it is a fine and I don't think that'll be big enough for them to work with. Should I just contact Pelikan or are there other avenues? TIA!

Currently inked pens:

  • Pelikan M205 Amethyst [F] (Noodler's Manhattan Blue)
  • Shaeffer PFM II Blue (Private Reserve Naples Blue)
  • Lamy 2000 [binder Italifine 0.7/0.5] (J. Herbin Vert Empire)
  • Waterman Ideal N° 01855 (Noodler's Walnut)
  • Pilot Vanishing Point Mustard [binder Stub Italic 0.6] (Noodler's Walnut)

Pelikan makes a nice italic nib for the M205. You will find it on Amazon (with the wrong photo) and Fahrney's Pens used to have them listed on their website but I didn't see it just now.

Another good source is Classic Fountain Pens at www.nibs.com.

They pre-test and adjust them (if necessary) so you're guaranteed of getting a nib that is terrific.

I've purchased steel Pelikan nibs from Amazon.

Lots of vendors sell replacement nibs and prices vary widely depending on the source. If you only want a replacement M205 nib in a larger size, I find Niche pens in the U.K. to be a good resource (no affiliation). You can get an M205 nib for about $37. If you want to keep it domestic, I believe Goldspot has these for around $65. A broad or italic would lend itself nicely to a grind.

Hi folks! Quick question on nibs for the Pelikan m215. I would like to replace the existing steel nib. It is quite smooth but I don't particularly like the feel on the paper. I know I can upgrade to the m400's (solid gold 2-tone) nib; it fits the m215, but that's too expensive for me. Do you know of any other steel or 14k solid gold nibs that are made by nib suppliers (say Knox or Nemosine or JoWo or something else) that might fit the m215 with the existing feed, and where I might buy them? I am going to do some research online but would appreciate any advice in the meantime. Cheers!

What is it about the nib that you don't like about "the feel on the paper"?

Pelikan 200/205/215 steel nibs are among the best steel nibs available...

Maybe the problem is the paper? The ink?

I don't like M200 nibs either. People have different preferences, that's all.

You can also buy a Pelikan M400 gold nib unit from the UK or Europe, where prices are more competitive and the dollar's recent strength helps.

Hi, I've had the pen (actually, two m215s) for about a year now. I have tried different inks - waterman, diamine. I also have other pens with steel nibs (a Nemosine nib, a Knox nib, two Indian pens with inexpensive stock steel nibs of size #6, etc, a Sheaffer prelude nib, and two JoWo nibs.) Somehow, the Pelikan m215s, although they feel wonderful in the hand, feel like they have a lightweight nib that floats on the paper (yes they are smooth).

I think I'm looking for a nib for the m215 that will both make the pen slightly 'head heavy' (a weightier nib) and one whose feedback is a little more 'earthy' - I need to feel the contact with the paper a lot more, without it being hesitant or scratchy of course. Hence the eye on the m400 nib (larger to make it more head heavy) and potentially better iridium tipped than on the steel nib to match the quality of the gold nib, us providing better feedback.

But, like I said, I can't afford two m400 nibs. So am looking for inexpensive alternatives.

Best regards.

Laura: thanks, yes I've looked into buying from the UK. In fact, I bought of of my two m215s from the UK - they were cheaper there even with postage. And yes indeed, the m400 gold nibs too are cheaper there. But I'm looking for inexpensive alternative steel nibs. Like Nemosine or Knox or Schmidt or JoWo. I've had good success recently with Nemosine and Knox nibs as replacements for some stock #6s.

Does anyone know what the size of the steel m215 nib is? Is it a #2 nib, given that it is leaner/smaller than the #6 and #5? I was trying to do some research online and found a chart somewhere for Parker nibs, but there's nothing about the nib size numbers for the Pelikan 'm' series.

Regards.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
