Traveler's Notebook Thick Insert Journals

Does any manufacturer make a journal insert for the TN that is 2 or 3 times the thickness of the normal ones? I'd like to find one like that to cut down on the number of inserts in my TN. I'm looking for both lined and grid versions

I know that they make a Kraft paper insert, but I don't think that would be fountain pen friendly. Personally, I use 2 of the Tomoe River-like inserts (013). The paper is FANTASTIC for fountain pens, although it does take a moment or two longer to dry. I also use the current weekly insert from TN as well. So, I end up with three inserts, but overall, it is just a little thicker than two inserts. My husband also uses a TN and he only has 2 regular grid inserts in his. We both use the regular size TNs.

Not 100% what you are after but Midori makes a thin paper insert of something like 128 pages vs the regular 64. Paper is thinner but quite good for fountain pens. Seen them sold on Amazon and Gouletpens in past.

Gouletpens also use to sell a brand of notebooks called Bandiapple ? It had very nice paper and certain sizes fit the Midori. It was a small operation and do not know if still exists.

Mike, most staple bound machines would not allow "2-3 times thickness" of the normal TN. To go above the Midori 013 refill of 128 pages, it would have to be either glue bound or sewn bound. Thicker books that are stapled bound also suffer from page shift problem, so not really recommended.

Steve Chang of makes both Passport and Travelers Notebook sized inserts of 64 Pages, but the heavier Tomoe River Paper. High quality, professional work, good pricing, ships quickly and is very accommodating to special needs. Quality of paper, cover, inserts exceeds that of Midori. Shipped in 48 Hours and I had my order in 7 days out of Taiwan. I highly recommend his product. Usual disclaimers apply no affiliation just a very satisfied first time customer. https://www.etsy.com/listing/273203736/tomoe-river-a5-tn-insert-cream-5mm-dot?ref=shop_home_feat_3

Steve: Paper is better than I'd hoped. I can dig out my L foot obliques and Stubs and use very wet ink. No Feathering or show through, no bleeding. This is the best ever I've had the opportunity to work with. The notebook inserts fit perfectly in the Leather cover you made for me. The Template is easy to see through the paper, fits perfectly and is very handy in preventing my up and down hill writing from going wild. I'll be back for more. etsy will let me give a formal review tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your art with me at a very reasonable price.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
