Pecan - Papier Plume

Papier Plume is s stationery shop situated in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The company began its business in 2001 however the shop was opened in 2007. From what I see on google maps the shop looks quite nice.

Some time ago the company started to offer fountain pen inks. They're supposed to be hand poured and bottled right in the shop. The inks are water based and described as french inks (imported? anyone knows french private label maker?). At the moment the inks are available in 15 colors and are sold in three bottles: small (15 ml), medium (30 ml), big (50 ml):

I've received samples of fourteen colors and I'll review them soon. The full line consists of:

  1. Black
  2. Burgundy
  3. Carmel
  4. Denim
  5. Forest Green
  6. Forget-me-not Blue
  7. Lover's Red
  8. Ivy Green
  9. Midnight Blue
  10. Moss Green
  11. Oyster Grey
  12. Peacock Blue
  13. Pecan
  14. Red
  15. Violet

Pecan can be described as nice earthy brown. It shows some water resistance. Saturation is medium. Flow is nice and I haven't observed any bleedthrough or feathering.

These are some very fine looking inks. Thanks again for introducing them to us and doing your usual excellent review

Thank you for reviewing this ink. I just ordered a bottle to add to the Moss Green & Caramel bottles I had been enjoying. You have excellent taste for ink colors.

Great review. I'm not too fond of this color of brown though. I reminds me of trees in winter, and I have have enough winter already.

Thanks for the nice review! This series seems quite promising and I hope the B&M shops will start selling them soon.

Btw, I think I see some blue along the edge of the ink drop?

Now I wonder what it looks like in chromatography.... ;)

i had assumed the color of 'pecan' would be a brown with more golden and reddish hue in comparison to the brown shade of this ink. nevertheless, i do think this is a nice formal brown that i could see using for daily writing.

If you look at pecan shells rather than the nutmeat I think their name is right on the money. Eager to get my bottle this week!

I got my bottle of this, and unfortunately I've found it's extremely sensitive to skin oils on coated paper (with an italic nib, anyway). Enough to be a real problem for me. :/

  • 2 weeks later...

Was in NOLA last weekend (for JazzFest, which has now gotten way too crowded for me) and stopped by Papier Plume, where I bought 4 of the inks that they didn't have the time I was there a few years ago. Pecan is easily my favorite of the lot--nice and dusky with good flow. Pleasant folks in the shop too.

Bumping this thread as I picked up a sample in my most recent Vanness order and have really been enjoying it so far. Looks beautiful on my TR notebook that I use for journaling, as it's more of a dusty brown that has some nice shading. I have it inked up in my M200 Cafe Creme, and the color feels like a perfect fit with the colorway of the Cafe Creme pen. I have a feeling this will make the "full bottle purchase list."

Great review as always Vis!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
