Oyster Grey - Papier Plume

Papier Plume is s stationery shop situated in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. The company began its business in 2001 however the shop was opened in 2007. From what I see on google maps the shop looks quite nice.

Some time ago the company started to offer fountain pen inks. They're supposed to be hand poured and bottled right in the shop. The inks are water based and described as french inks (imported? anyone knows french private label maker?). At the moment the inks are available in 15 colors and are sold in three bottles: small (15 ml), medium (30 ml), big (50 ml):

I've received samples of fourteen colors and I'll review them soon. The full line consists of:

  1. Black
  2. Burgundy
  3. Denim
  4. Forest Green
  5. Forget-me-not Blue
  6. Lover's Red
  7. Ivy Green
  8. Midnight Blue
  9. Moss Green
  10. Oyster Grey
  11. Peacock Blue
  12. Pecan
  13. Red
  14. Violet

Oyster Grey is probably my favourite in the line. It's well behaved and nice shade of grey that is perfectly legible.

Thanks for the review. I'm not a grey ink fan but that one is OK. I prefer Grey Hematite & Kobe Museum Grey.

On my monitor it seems to be more on the blue side than Graf von Faber Castell Stone Grey, but only a bit. Is this observation correct? :)

Great review, great grey. One of my favourites. Nice blend of blue plus silver!

Delighted you're spreading the word on this lovely grey.

I really like it.

I found it very close in colour to that mega expensive (but gorgeous) Heironymous Blue 01

I haven't considered myself a grey connoisseur, but I have most of those on your comparison image!

Greys are a sneaky lot . . .

Now for those hooked on asking what is the blackest black, how about greys?

Agree! I noticed the silver along the edges.

Excellent review and what a great looking grey.

Thank you for another great review! I have to agree that I like this color of grey, but then I prefer bluer-greys than warmer greys. And it looks like it shades a bit.

Grey is a sneaky color. I used to think, WHY GREY, grey is just a faded black, or a 'wanna be black.' But I tried some (Noodler's Lexington Grey), and dang if I wasn't hooked on the color. For my senior citizen eyes, grey ink on white paper is less harsh on my eyes than black ink on white paper. So now my ink horizons has been expanded to a color that I had never thought was worth looking at.

I just started getting hooked on gray inks. It's a delicate balance that it not be too dark, ie, approaching black, and being so light so that it becomes difficult to read.

This looks like a nice middle-of-the-road gray that I'll be ordering.

Papier Plume is a wonderful store that became my Mecca when I visited New Orleans last December. Wonderful store products and wonderful staff

Thanks for the review

This looks like a nice one -- dark enough to be legible, light enough to not be mistaken for "washed out black".

Thanks for the review. And not.... Of course, I still have a fairly full bottle of De Atramentis Tchaikowsky/Silver Grey....

I really need to stop reading ink reviews.... :headsmack:

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

How is water resistance of Oyster Grey?

“I admit it, I'm surprised that fountain pens are a hobby. ... it's a bit like stumbling into a fork convention - when you've used a fork all your life.”

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
