Hello all, so I'm the new guy around and I think introductions are in order that would be the polite thing I believe.

 

So I'm Herman from South Africa, my love for writing has always been around I've been writing stories for quite a few years now and always though that the best way to do it was by typing it out, but recently, last year October or there about, I bought a Parker Vector Premium pen it was on sale so I didn’t think too much about it a pen is a pen after all or that was what I thought.

 

How wrong I was, after inserting the ink cartridge and starting to write I was just so much fun it took me back to my childhood when I took Calligraphy classes and how much I used to enjoy doing it. After writing for about an hour I decided that this is definitely the way that writing should be done.

 

All in all, I'm still rather new to this I just ordered my first pen that works with a converter, so looking forward to learning more from everyone.

In our digital age, writing by hand is therapeutic. It engages a different area of the brain, than a keyboard. I find it expressive and relaxing. Do you find that friends and family enjoy receiving handwritten mail ?

 

If your Vector did not come with a converter for filling from an ink bottle, one can be had for about €5 . (Sorry. I don't know the Rand equivilent.) Alternatively, the empty cartridge can be refilled, using a medical syringe, until the "seal" becomes loose. (The Parker cartridge is quite durable.)

I completely agree with it being therapeutic after a long day it is one of the things that helps me relax the quickest, as yes I am one of the people who sit behind a keyboard the whole day and even while sitting working I still prefer to write out my own personal notes on what I am doing on a piece of paper and the other people always seems to think it’s strange seeing someone do something by hand when you can have software do it for you.

 

As for Handwritten mail Family yes they do generally appreciate it, some friends as well those who come from similar backgrounds and also like the more creative aspects of things. Others though don't appreciate the art and the effort that it take to write a letter these are also the people I have found that would rather send a IM than make a phone call a more impersonal form of communications.

Beware of fountain pens that tend to breed...and breed! It is surely an addictive hobby (or necessity, depending on your viewpoint) and you will find the classifieds section very tempting -- although, with your exchange rate, it will be mouth-watering only, perhaps?
