Deatramentis Giuseppe Verdi

In my continuing search for the perfect blue-black, the next contestant is DeAtramentis Giuseppe Verdi. Note that I do not have extensive experience with this particular ink. This review is based on a 2ml sample and thus I'd invite any FPN members with long term experience with this ink to chime in.

Giuseppe Verdi is a nice dark blue color, with a slight lean towards gray.

The following sample is written on Clairefontaine French-ruled paper with a Lamy Al-Star and 1.1mm italic nib:

The second sample is written on a Rhodia lined pad with a Nakaya Portable Writer. This pen has a 0.5mm cursive italic nib that has been tuned to a flow just on the wet side of medium (5-6 on a scale of 1-10):

The third sample is written on Staples brand 75 g/m2 multipurpose copy paper using the same Nakaya Portable Writer.

Performance

Lubrication: Adequate - reasonably smooth writing with the pen/paper combinations used for this review.

Flow: Moderate. Well controlled without being overly wet or dry.

Saturation: A saturated ink, but not overly so.

Shading: Slight. Visible with a broad nib, not much there with a finer nib.

Line quality: Good on high quality paper, slight spread and feathering on low quality paper.

Showthrough/bleedthrough: None on Rhodia, moderate showthrough and slight bleedthrough on the Staples copy paper. Use of both sides on low end paper is questionable.

Dry time: Average.

Cleanup: Flushed out of my pens without much problem. No issues.

Water resistance: Moderate. After a five minute soak in lukewarm water, some of the color is washed out but the writing is still clearly visible:

Overall: This is a well behaved ink that performs well on high quality paper. Low end paper is a little trickier - slight feathering and showthrough may be a problem for some. It's a nice color that is very appropriate for business use and the moderate water resistance means your writing won't disappear if the sprinklers turn on. I'll pass on this one because I don't find the color compelling and the low end paper performance is marginal. Not enough here to displace any of the blue-blacks that are already in my collection.

Good review of a nice blue color....

Is it just my eyes or the pics....but the color seems to vary a lot across the different sample images.

Thanks,

Mark

The color is pretty similar between the Rhodia and Clairefontaine papers. It does look darker on copy paper, probably because more ink is being drawn from the nib due to the higher absorption of the paper.

Thanks for clarifying...

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
