A Nos Pan Am Imprinted Parker 51.

Apparently I'm not the only one who loves pens and all things airplane related. When I saw this NOS, complete with tags, "Pan Am" imprinted Parker 51, I had to try for it. I had a snipe bid set that I was sure would win me the pen, even though it's a NOS one with tags. I really thought my bid was strong enough to win it. I was actually the high bidder for about 3 seconds, then in the last 3 seconds it jumped from $110 to $284! It was a sniper battle. My max was $155 and I thought I was overpaying at that price, but dang I wanted that beauty! I'm bummed I didn't win it, but it went above what I could afford anyway. So whoever wound up with it, congrats if you read this. You earned it.

*sigh* Now to try and find another one, maybe a used one so the price will stay more in my range.

Oh well, I've still got my "Douglas Aircraft Company, Engineering Department" imprinted Estie Dollar pen to fondle and stare at.

That Estie would be pretty cool - the best I have is from the Fort Wayne School District.

The Pan Am would be beyond cool. But just think - now you won't have the temptation to use it and lower the value!

Wow. And I was bummed because I was outbid two days running on Emerald Pearl Vacs.... The first one I ran across with about 2 hours left to the auction. No bids. So I bid with about a half hour to go and got sniped in the last minute and a half.... Someone got a deal (it went for $35). If it's anyone here on FPN, I officially hate you. :glare: Just sayin'....

The second one I got plain outbid on. It also, IMO went for a good price -- $80 restored. Just a little higher than I could afford to go at the moment. I have to pay for advance reservations for early onsite crew for the show we run a food booth at (for some reason my husband couldn't get Paypal to work, so we have to use my account; when he forwarded me the invoices, they came through as garbled garbage on my laptop... but are *perfectly* readable on my iPhone :wallbash:).

Sigh.

Yeah, a Pan Am 51 would be kinda neat. Back when I was in middle and high school (and a couple of times in college) I got to take a bunch of cheap charter tour trips to various places in Europe with my parents. And we almost always flew Pan Am, out of their terminal at JFK in New York. But not at that price: that's more than I paid (not counting repair costs) for *all* of my 51s -- four Aeros and two 51 Vacs -- *combined*....

So you're telling me there's more out there? That's good news, or bad news if you're my bank account.

I have other 51's I use for writers. Its ink Virginity would have been safe with me.

Hell, I probably would have gotten it its own lighted display case! LOL

eBay yields a few every year. I suspect the Pan Am collectors will pay more than a pen collector would.

Good thing they are always blue. Perhaps if we start a rumor they are Plum the price will go down.

I have a Cross Century I imprinted CONCORDE...

Or this?

And, I'm interested if either are just taking up too much room in your collections...

I have wanted a Pan Am 51 for quite some time, but have simply been unwilling to pay the price these have gone for just because of that imprint.

Would love to see pics of yours.

Thanks!

FP and ballpoint. I wish more Vectors had black clips, it's a good look.

I agree with you there, Brian.  The black Vector clips are really classy looking.  Trying to remember if any of mine has one.

I’m interested in how and why the pens were given out.   Was it for high mileage customers, employees, special tours, to appease upset passengers??  Any information you may have would be appreciated.

I seem to recall that the Pan Am territory manager in Barbados was named John Nelson. I  also have a vague recollection that the pen was a prize for a tournament of some sort that my dad took part in.
