Personalised / Corporate Award Engraved Pens - Opinions?

Hi all,

What's the consensus on vintage, engraved & named corporate award pens (NOT low end jotters etc) - are they generally considered as collectible or is there even a sub group of collectors who go for nothing but?

Just askin' :)

Regards,

Frank

There might be people who collect them, but as a general rule pens that are personalized in any way are less valuable to collectors. Unless, of course, there is some kind of historical significance to the engraving. However, historical significance usually involves an engraving of a famous individual's name, not a company. In such cases, it is almost impossible to verify and so anyone that pays extra money for a pen that was "owned" by a famous person is likely getting ripped off.

Thanks, Phaus - much as I suspected.

For my part, much as many vintage pens will be from deceased estates, I think I'd find a constant reminder of owning a 'dead man's pen' somewhat distasteful, too.

Frank

I have a few P51's with the following hot stamps.

And

Big Six Champions

From the 1947 Kansas college football team.

This type of history I do not mind on a pen.

I am sure that personal engraving usually diminishes the value. However, resale value is of consequence only when resold. I don't resell. I think the engraved name "John C. Milner" adds character to my new pen. Also, it saves me from having to name the pen.

I suppose (if you're crazy), you could change your own name to match, too! :)

Well, I've taken a little punt on these beauties (61 Customs). Not really sure what to do with them, but as I seem to be developing a fondness for 61s, perhaps they'll come in handy for spares. Be a shame to break 'em, though - they look to be in lovely order. Cost me £40 posted!
