Noodler's is one of the companies that don't need introductions. Nathan's Tardiff work is unimaginable. The guy must be a vampire who doesn't sleep and feeds on developing ideas: new inks, new pens.

 

Noodler’s Zhivago is one of most interesting inks I've used recentlty. It's hard to say what color it really is. Zhivago is a green-black-grey ink, heavier on the black than on the green in most nibs and on most papers. On the other hand green is still visible and while some people may argue I think of it as dark green-black and not black with green accents. Whatever. Rhe thing is the ink is excellent and water resistant. It may also serve as a transition ink for those who are hesitant if it's appropriate to use colors other than blue or black during business meetings.

Nice review!

 

When I have used it, it has been quite chalky and boring. Not the saturated green-black I expected. Not my kind of ink at all...

If Noodlers mixed this ink for a stationery store in the southern United States, the color would be called Charleston Green. The way your close-up photographs show how the ink behaves in handwriting is extremely useful, Visvamitra.

This is a very nice green. My favorite green is Kingdom Note Cicada green, but this is nice, too.

Lovely review of a "classic".

I keep returning to my bottle and filling pens with it every now and then but find the sour green left after washing over a deal breaker for me. It only gets used for writing with now but for that it's stellar.

I like this color! Thanks for the review and beautiful writing samples:)

I don't have any Noodler's ink myself, I wonder what its behavior is like....does this one cause any clogging, staining, or other problems?

I don't seem to get on so well with Noodler's but Zhivago I do like.

 

An added bonus is that being such a dark green you can still use it when the jobsworths say you must use black ink! It does not happen to me very often but a little bit of civil disobedience can make the day.

I've had this ink for a while, when it was available in the UK. Great stuff but sometimes a little hard to get out of some pens.

I loved my sample so much that I ordered a bottle! It's a hard color to describe. "off black". I'm not a big carbon black fan so I love this!

Strange.

Just received a sample, but with a dip pen it doesn't look black at all, just a green slightly darker than Pilot Iroshizuku Chiku-Rin.....

Crazy :) It looks like totally different ink. I know that no two batches of Zhivago are the same but this is just too much.

I agree! Fortunately I love both. That's some pretty extreme variation though. Let me dig out another old nib and see if I can make mine look like that.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
