"dusty Rose" Ink?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm looking for an ink with what I would call a dusty rose color. (reddish mauve?) Preferably one that won't stain a demonstrator too bad as I may be putting it in a TWSBI Eco (I love mine so much I am thinking of buying another) but I won't be too upset if it stains either. I'd also prefer something not too expensive and readily available.

Do you all have any suggestions? There are so many inks out there I wouldn't know where to begin!

Maybe J Herbin Bouquet d'Anton or Rouille d'Ancre? I can't say for sure, because I haven't tried either of them, but the Herbin inks (at least their regular line) are pretty easy to flush out of pens.

I looked at the Goulet Pens website for all inks that would be considered "pink" and those were the two that seemed closest to "dusty rose" (the other possibility was Noodler's Georgia Peach HL ink, but it's out of stock at the moment).

Kingdom Note (Mushroom) Mycena-pura

KWZ Ink Brown Pink

Both inks are wonderful options though KWZI, I find, is a wetter ink, but that lends itself to wonderful shading and it's far more affordable than the former.

Rouille d'Ancre, I believe, is more salmon in hue, but when the ink is applied generously, it takes on a dusky, vintage pink appearance.

I'll try to post some samples later today or tomorrow.

I agree that J Herbin Rouille d'ancre is a salmon colour. Does it translate to Rust on an anchor?

KWZI Brown/pink was a bit darker for me than what I would call a dusty rose colour.

In all of my powder pigments is a quite expensive one called Rose Madder. That is the colour I would call dusty rose.

The inks I would look at would be Pelikan Edelstein Turmaline (hard to find) or J. Herbin Rouge Bourgogne. Maybe Diamine Amaranth? That could be a bit bright.

That brown pink is gorgeous! It's a bit bolder than what I was envisioning but I love it! (it is hard to describe a color like this, but some of these nailed it. I love that one especially.)

Another vote for J Herbin Bouquet D'Antan. It's a very pale pink in my fine nibs but a really lovely colour. Your post inspired me to fill a demonstrator with it. Great for Valentine letters!

Yes. It's also a play on words: ancre/encre [anchor/ink].

That's a beautiful color! Too light for most things, for me. Beautiful all the same!

I'm taking a liking to Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses but I've heard Noodler's ink isn't the best behaved so I don't know.

IMO most Noodler's inks are very well behaved. Check the reviews on individual inks. Yet the only ink brands I'll put in my vintage pens -Waterman and Sheaffer. For all my other pens I use Noodler's with little reservation. Yes I do use only one certain pen with Baystate Blue but that is for its special properties.

Black Swan is a very nice and attractive ink.

I've stumbled (again) across glass dip pens... Now I'm determined to get one of those and I can play with ALL THE INKS! :D I may just order a bunch of samples from Goulet.

I just ordered a couple of bottles of ink from a new company called Tekker Ink. They make custom inks and I have no idea what their product is like but will soon find out. Maybe you could choose your own shade of 'dusty rose' through them.

I have a glass pen and a bunch of samples on the way (two of the dusty rose variety). I don't have to fear staining or particles or anything else with a dip pen, so I'm really excited!

I went through my notes and found a couple others that might do (although one of them may be difficult to find).

One is De Atramentis Jeanne d'Arc, which is a pale lavender. The other (the hard to find one, because it may have been discontinued) is Organics Studio Jane Austen.

Check out the pink thread:

I admit, I don't use "dusty" "murky" or "chalky" colors, so you don't want to go by my samples, but if you find a color you like, you can add a drop of black or even a drop of De Atramentis White to get dusky color.

Here are some samples from Tessy.

I think this is too blue, but it may be what you like. This is from Halloween.

Gorgeous! I love your ink sample posts. I ordered a couple of samples, I'll update once the PO decides to let go of them.
