I wonder what the President of Japan uses- I presume during official signings that whipping out a Uni-Ball Signo would be frowned upon no? I do believe Cross manufactur(ed?) a presidential series for signing bills into law but I can't quite recall.

In any case, lets see if we can dig up any more information!

(& lets not make it political please!)

I have, um, strong feelings about the second President Bush, but c'mon, this is not the place for airing partisan opinions. I was pleased to see Dubya using a Pilot Varsity in his "Ice Bucket Challenge" video as he prepared to write a check to the ALS Foundation:

As for Japan, the country doesn't have a President. Japan has a monarch - Emperor Akahito - like the United Kingdom, and the elected government is headed by a Prime Minister, currently Shinzō Abe. Who does seem to use fountain pens, and fancier ones than Pilot disposables:

And he uses a blotter!

He is also a Mac user?

For the camera, at least, he's presenting himself as a Mac user. I'm dubious that any of the schmutter in those orchestrated PR exercises is what he uses when left to his own devices without a media consultant lurking off camera to make sure he's presenting the correct image, though. Actual press shots of him using pens or computers at work might be revealing, but this sort of thing, rather less so.

(That said, remember the fuss when he said he liked the Smiths and both Morrissey and Marr took exception to that?)

:P

Is that a Elabo?

It has the ring on the grip and a flat top. And the nib looks awfully square.

#Nope

The Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull uses a fountain pen. But I have a hard time figuring out what pens it is.

I've heard that he uses a Montblanc 146, but from this photo it doesn't look like a Montblanc.

Does anyone know what it is?

Richard Milhuose Nixon was known to have used a Parker 75:

Of course this is my pen and not the one he actually used...

There have been a number of pens used for bill signers over the years (I have an Alexander use by Clinton and a Parker used by Nixon) - Cross is doing the current ones - Townsend Rollerballs. Quite a handsome pen.

For Barak Obama it is a Cross Townsend (I suspect made in China... call it irony).

Actually the way pens are used to sign bills at the White House was worth a video:

Sometimes they just use what they are given, so pics from official signings like these are not always a good indicator of what heads of state use..

And then there is Putin...

The end was great!

Anyone know what pen(s) Putin uses? I think I have read here somewhere that he (amongst other pens) uses a Parker 75..
