My everyday blue ink is PPS, but since you have given up on acquiring it then just ignore my suggestion

Best regards.

Chesterfield Antique Yankee (which is a rebrand of Diamine Regency Blue, but with more volume options and at a lower price) is by far my favorite blue. It is what I compare all other blue inks to, and I have to say that none have quite matched the pure awesomeness that is Antique Yankee.

xfountainpens sells this at $3.99 for 25ml, $7.99 for 50ml, or $9.99 for 100 ml (and they offer free shipping on orders of $15 or more). I highly recommend this ink.

Depending on where you plan to acquire the samples, you may be able to try blues that I would recommend:

Asa-gao - Pilot Iroshizuku

Barrier Reef Blue - Blackstone

Blue - Omas

Blue - Visconti

Eclat de Saphire - J. Herbin

Sky Blue - De Atramentis

DC SUpershow Blue - Private Reserve

There's a lot more but this should be possible to order from main shops (although yoou'll have to wait a bit until Goulet's or Anderson's have Barrier reef Blue).

These are all excellent recommendations. One that hasn't been mentioned is Platinum's Mix-Free Aurora Blue. Not quite as bright as BSB, but much better behaved. I use it in a Platinum 3776 Century with their music nib, and it's a joy.

Sailor Nano Sei-boku

Pelikan Edelstein Topaz

Bungbox First Love Sapphire (a nod to PPS).

Bungbox 4B

First two are easy enough to find samples of on-line. The latter two, at present time, can only be had in bottle form, from Vanness.

Here are the blues that I am using or have used:

- Private Reserve, DC Super Show Blue

- Noodler's-Goulet, Liberty's Elysium

- Waterman, Serenity blue (this has a shade of purple, and I use it when want a wet ink)

- Cross/Pelikan, blue (I use this when I want a dry ink)

- Sheaffer Skrip, blue (an old standby that still looks nice)

- Diamine, Midnight (this is a DARK blue, nice alternative to black or blue-black)

- Blackstone, Barrier Reef Blue (it shades)

Uh! There are so many blues!

A few that I like are:

Sailor Blue-Black

Noodler's Manhattan Blue (FPH exclusive)

Montblanc Permanent Blue (but, for me, it's a high maintenance ink and kindv temperamental -- still, a beautiful blue)

Waterman Mysterious Blue

Akkerman Blue-Black (iron-gall and perhaps dry; I like it only in wet pens)

Visconti Blue

I'm sure there are others, but these are off the top of my head. The only blue I'm using lately is the Waterman.

I'm enjoying Noodler's Bad Blue Heron at the moment but it might not be 'standard' enough for some people. Can't go far wrong with Aurora Blue and for some real 'pop' have a look for Akkerman's Shocking Blue.

My first blue sample haul includes the listed colors. If none of these completely suit me, I will sample more of what was suggested :) thanks again!

OK, now then...

I personally love Noodler's Liberty's Elysium. It's my main blue. But I also have and love Iroshizuku Asa gao and Pelikan Edelstein Topaz. I'd recommend any and all of them.

Best regards.

It's not that I wouldn't LOVE to get my hands on PPS. But I've given up on the possibility of that happening.
