Alternative To Rhodia Webnotebook With White Paper

Love

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been asked a hundred times before but I tried several searches but couldn't find an answer that met my requirements.

I'm looking for an alternative to the webbie but with white paper. Some of my favourite inks really sing on white paper but look dark and dull on ivory paper. The book needs to be fountain pen friendly, preferably narrow ruled (dot grid would be preferred but probably asking a lot as it is).

Any suggestions?

Matt

Consider one of Clarefontaine's offerings? I think you might find one that suits you if you browse through their catalogue.

A sincere man am I
From the land where palm trees grow,
And I want before I die
My soul's verses to bestow.

All those moments will be lost in time.
Like tears in rain.
Time to die.

I had a look at Clarefontaine but they don't seem to have anything with a clean looking hardback closure similar to the webbie, they're all ugly!

Hello!

I would check out the following...

http://www.jetpens.com/Apica-Premium-C.D.-Notebook-Hardcover-A5-Lined-Black/pd/14195

Sadly, it's been very difficult to come across hardback notebooks with white paper. If I see anything else I will definitely post here.

I have an Apica Premium CD notebook and the paper is more of an off-white color rather than pure white.

To the op:

How about Black n' Red? (link to Amazon UK)

I have no personal experience with them but I've seen many positive reviews and the paper is supposed to be bright white.

I keep hearing about the Black n' Reds but I have never taken the leap surprisingly. I have to get one and try it out.

Franklin-Christoph has hardback notebooks with white paper--dot grids are available.

Yes, I would agree that the firma-flex journal is professional looking with a nice hardback and is very fountain pen friendly. The paper color does have a faint pink cast to it, but I find that it is very complimentary to the inks that I have used, which range the entire color spectrum. The paper itself has a tiny bit more feedback than a Clairefontaine/Rhodia paper. It is also a thicker paper as compared to a Tomoe River. But it is very servicable. I highly recommend it .

Ever since the Habanas got ruined by changing the paper color to dingy ivory, I've had the same problem. If you don't like any of the Clairefontaine notebooks, try Paperblanks. Their paper is white and improved vastly over what they used to use.

I have the Franklin Christoph hardback journal in A4 size. It's classy and professional. I've used several F-C fountain pens on it without feathering pr bleeding. (Waterman ink, FC models 20, 40 and 65.) They come in 3 sizes and choices of blank, lined or dots. The A4 is $19.50, which I think is very reasonable for the size and quality.

That was the first thing I thought of also...that it is still horrible that they changed the Habana and ruined the perfect notebook. I haven't been really happy with a notebook since then.

I am going to look at the Apica, though. I didn't know they were making them in hardcover.

When I first ordered the hardcover Apica it was from Rakuten. The price came out to about the same with shipping maybe a little less. But Jet Pens is a great company and they ship quickly. Not to mention the free shipping over $25. I was happy to see that they are beginning to carry them. Before nobody in the US that I saw had them.

Thanks for the comment on the paper quality of Paperblanks, I would probably buy one for myself as a Christmas present.

How about this? I'm very pleased with the several I've used.

Wow thanks for the replies guys. Plenty to look into there. I do some googling when I get home from work.

I have had mixed experiences with black n red. I have two A4 books that bleed through and two A5 books that are perfect so your mileage may vary.

Interesting. I've not used their A4 but have used several of their A5s and all have shown bleed through - assuming that bleed through means seeing the ink on the reverse side.
