Kaweco Sport Rollerball

Recommended Posts

Having read some older posts after doing a search for international ink cartridge rollerballs the Kaweco Sport was mentioned. A number of times.... Does anybody know if the Kaweco Sport rollerball is still manufactured to accept standard or international ink cartridges? From what I have been reading they now take a more normal rollerball refill.

Any ideas please?

Thank you.

The magic words were "ink roller" which were then mixed with the normal "rollerball". With 30 second googleing I don't think you'll have much luck finding one outside of ebay and other places like that.

Edit: there is exactly one in ebay, so even there you may need to do some hunting.

Kaweco Supra (titanium B), Al-Sport (steel BB).

Parker: Sonnet (dimonite); Frontier GT; 51 (gray); Vacumatic (amber).

Pelikan: m600 (BB); Rotring ArtPen (1,9mm); Rotring Rive; Cult Pens Mini (the original silver version), Waterman Carene (ultramarine F)

Ah, those little magic words did indeed elude me :) I'll add them to my searches to see if I can find what I am after. Just to add to the difficulty If I can find any I want a green one to match my Sport fountain pen..... This hunt could be fun ;)

Again, thank you.

Apparently still available, at least at my regular shop.

Not a good idea to get same color if you are going to carry them together. Unless one has clip fitted and the other is not. :)

Gonna have trouble telling one from the other...

Unfortunately that is the regular rollerball which... well, atleast older versions used Schmidt P8127-type refills (but apparently could use Parker G2-refills). I say "older" because some time ago I asked the people at Cult Pens if those Kaweco Sport rollerballs can use Parker G2's with a spring or otherwise. I was planning on getting AL Sport or Brass sport and then using a pressurised ballpoint refill in it. This is what they replied:

The Kaweco Sport rollerballs used to be supplied with the Schmidt refills, but are now supplied with ‘Parker-style’ G2 refills. Modern pens can use either type of refill. We’re not sure if older pens can use G2 refills as well as the Schmidt refills they were originally supplied with, and we don’t have any older pens now to check with.

I do not quite get what is the problem?

Do you want the Schmidt refill?

Or do you want the Parker G2 size refill?

OK, a bit of Googling for Schmidt P8127: (no afil with this shop, just Googling)

http://www.onlinerefillshop.co.uk/shop/index.php/roller-ball-pen-refills/schmidt-short-rollerball-refill-medium-7.html

Scroll to the bottom for explanation.

---------------

Acoording to the La Couronne du Comte site the Kaweco sports can use the P8126 or P8127.

As far as I can see the Parker G2 ballpoint refill is the same length as the Schmidt P8126/P8127, but I see no measurements for the length of the narrow end on both.

But why not send La Couronne du Comte a mail, Dennis is a very nice and helpful person. And AFAIK he ships all over the world.

My original question was simply about the availability of the Kaweco 'ink roller' rollerball. It would seem that Kaweco have now discontinued this in favour of a standard refill which I am not all interested in :( Maybe some NOS will turn up at some point...somewhere. In the meantime I am very happy with my J.Herbin ink cartridge rollerball.

It is highly unlikely Kaweco made these themselves. They probably would have outsourced the refills/ Trick is to find who the OEM was.

You could of course try and mail Kaweco's service department.... They will certainly like to hear that you were very pleased with their original rollerball refill.

If you mean the "ink rollers" that use standard international ink cartridges (the short ones), then you can buy them via cultpens.co.uk (no affiliation) who are fantastic. I have 5 of them (bought 3 in the last 12 months) in different colours and use Diamine and Private Reserve cartridges. They're smooth, functional and perfect for when a fountain pen just won't do.

They are indeed that type :) thank you. I shall navigate over to Cult Pens straight away.

Cheers for that information :)

Ah, it would appear that Cult Pens do not have any ink roller rollerballs now :( I did look there a few days ago but thought maybe they might just have had some from somewhere...... All they have now is the usual rollerball that uses a long refil as opposed to the international fountain pen cartridge.

I am consoling myself with a Zebra R-301. Hopefully that will suffice...

Good news my fellow writing enthusiasts :) I have finally tracked down a Kaweco 'ink roller' rollerball. Not quite the Classic Sport that I was after but it does do away with that problem of knowing if I am popping the cap off the fountain pen or the rollerball. It's an Ice Sport in green. I found this pen at http://www.andys-pens.com The shop is based in Kent in England and they appear to have a few of the ink rollers in stock (only in an Ice Sport model though).

It's good when a seemingly forlorn quest bears fruit :) Thank you all for your help and advice.

Merry Christmas everybody.

Ah right. That's where I have seen those. It's good to be wrong sometimes.

On another note if you would have been able to find that green one: you could have also bought the leather sleeve intended for two sports and always keep the fountain pen on certain side.

I may just make myself a leather pouch for the two Kawecos. It's easy enough after all and I could include a small pouch for spare ink cartridges.

Glad you found one and surprised Cult Pens no longer gave them. I'm also pleased I have several.

Now that is what you call good service. I only told you good people about my discovery and consequent submittal of an order for the elusive Kaweco ink roller rollerball yesterday. What do I find pushed through the letterbox this morning? Only my new rollerball :) So, Andy Evans of andys-pens.co.uk you are a star and I publicly thank you. With apologies as I think I had previously given an incorrect web address of andys-pens.com. It is definitely a .co.uk domain.
