As dvalliere writes, he is supposed to be some kind of bear hunter, or some guy from the Finish/Russian militay. And it was supposed to look like snowshoes on his back. But you're right, tennis rackets add a surreal take to the story. Some day I might make up a complete story about the guy, but mostly I only have bits of their lives in my head when I make them up. I'm not sure where they come from, but it seems like my head is crowded with these peculiar characters.
