Dark, light. Either way, it's on the way! Woo-hoo!

Here's a screenshot from the Goulet web site.

Mine's coming with a 1.1 mm stub. I can always order a Butter-Line Stub-Italic from Pendleton Brown if I want a Fine or Medium edged nib. But for now – I want to see how the factory stub compares to my collection of BLS nibs.

My Lava arrived today, only 2 days after I ordered. It looks even better in person than in the pictures!

I'll ink it up in the morning, but I haven't decided on an ink color yet.

A new Diamond 580 AL color is coming on December 15, 2017. "Red Rose":

Is this finally the red version in the picture from 2014?

This will be the 8th limited edition color:

  • Orange
  • Purple
  • Blue
  • Green
  • Lava
  • Pink
  • Turquoise
  • Red

I hope 2018 brings a 580 AL in gold, to match the recently-released Diamond Mini AL.

I'm currently waiting for mine to arrive. Been waiting a long time for the red one, so I couldn't wait any longer now that it's available.

I'd really like to get an Orange or Lava, any tips on where I might find one? I thought I'd be able to make a post in the Marketplace here, but cannot figure out how to do so.

The Lava version shows up on eBay fairly regularly. They are nearly always described as "Lava Orange". If enough details are offered, these nearly always turn out to be Lava, not Orange. Most of them come from the same seller, who seems to have a stockpile he's selling.

When a true Orange does appear on eBay, it is inevitably very expensive. If you see an Orange offered at a price too good to be true, it's a safe bet it's really a Lava. Without a side-by-side comparison, I don't think I could tell them apart.

If you know anyone in the Philippines, Scribe Writing Essentials still has some. They don’t ship internationally though. I just bought one last week to complete my collection.

I wish I had known about the Purple at the time, and not after the fact....

I have one of the Pink 580-ALs and (mostly) love it. Although I do have a few issues. One of them is that the piston does not go all the way down to the back of the feed. I just flushed the pen out last week and after letting it drain onto paper toweling all weekend there STILL is a little bit of water in the chamber. Also, when I flushed it after I wanted to swap out colors, the pink of the section is now slightly discolored from soaking the pen in ammonia solution. It's not a dealbreaker, but it is noticeable.

And unless I can find a really good deal on a Purple one (which is unlikely) -- or TWSBI comes out with another "must have" color like the Pink -- the weight of the pen and the issues with the piston would make me hesitate getting another one.

Why not just unscrew the section off the front of the body and use a rolled up paper towel or paper napkin to push in and soak up the water? It's designed to unscrew easy for changing out nibs.

I'm still in the market for a Diamond 580Al Lava/ Orange if anyone has one they'd like to sell. I still cannot figure out how to use the FPN Marketplace, so if anyone has a suggestion for that I'd appreciate it as well.
