Lamy Studio Palladium - Rusty Problems

Hello,

I have had a Lamy Studio Palladium for two weeks now. And also, I have very sweaty hands.

I have notice some rust on the grip section lately. Because of that I usually clean the section well in the end of the day.

Yeasterday I forgot to clean it. It was a hot day, the night was very humid because of a strong rain. This mornig I saw way too much rust on the grip section. Several small brown dots of rust all over the grip section.

Looking carefully, I notice that the rust comes from the inside part of the cap.

Does someone know how to solve that, if it can be solved?

Should I ask the retailer to change the pen? Or it will happen with any pen of this model?

Hrm seems like maybe there is excess moisture in the cap (the inner cap itself is mostly a black rubbery plastic). Also inks being water-based would contribute to possible rusting but the pen should be plated/coated in such a way to prevent that.

It might be a good idea to contact the retailer (or Lamy if you have a warranty in your part of the world).

I got my Studio Palladium second hand, but the previous owner using it with Diamine Ancient copper, I noticed that there was some rust around the clutch ring and a little bit on the grip itself. Cleaning them off of course shows pitting, so I've had it happen, but not nearly as bad to the extent you described.

PS: The inner cap can be unscrewed from the inside (I *think* the screw goes in the opposite direction then would normally thing), since it's just the inner cap screwed into the top of the main cap. You may be able to unscrew it and double check that the cap itself is not rusting.

Here's mine, it's not that extreme on the grip plating itself, but you can see it in both the clutch ring and the coating (where it has pitting)

I had something similar to what your photo shows, but the small dots were everywhere in the grip.

I was able to clean, and remove almost all the dots without any damage to the section. I mean, the section does show anything after the cleaning. At least for now.

That is why I think it cames from the inside of the cap.

So yestarday, after found my pen is such condition, I cleaned, and today nothing happenig overnight. No moisture, no rust I guess.

I will contact the retailer to see if I could, or would, change the pen.

I just need to the keep the nib though, I have tunned it just after the purchase, cause it wrote to broad for a fine nib. Lets see.

Thanks for the answer.
