Hi,

I will be in Delhi over the weekend for a business trip and thought it would be great to get some pen tourism time. Can anyone suggest some shops ?

Cheers

I dont think Williampenn is a good option for non-Indians. They sell the standard production line pens (which you can get get from anywhere in the world) at max retail price.

It is better to try some other dedicated penshops in the local marketplaces. Anyone from Delhi can tell you.

Do William Penn stock any Indian pen? I didn't see any at their Cochin outlet nor in their website.

I found Delhi disappointing for fountain pens, but Nai Sarak is a wonderful place to buy good stationery. Found a great welcome from shop owners and some really gorgeous leather bound notebooks, fabric bound account books, all in FP friendly paper and at very good prices (threw away some clothes so I could free up my luggage to take notebooks home, this being my last stop in India).

I wasn't very impressed by the stock at Nehru Place pen corner when I was there - and as a foreigner I just avoid CP because I'm fed up of being told about the great place to buy carpets, the man who wants to do tantric massage, etc etc.

Too many pens, too little time!

It is same all over India, there are handful of places where you can get good / nice fountain pens, mostly all stores have ballpoint collection but no fountain pens

I had written to them how they call that. They seemed ignorant that there are famed Indian manufacturers like Deccan, Gama, Ratnamson etc.

Didn't have much luck with pens and was told to avoid Nai Sarak so ended up in CP.

Time to plan another trip to Mumbai.

You could have called me.. I could have shown around

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
