Anyone Tried The Visconti Venus?

I've looked for a review of the Visconti Venus here but couldn't find one. I'm a semi-newbie with nine pens, the most expensive one being a Cross, and am thinking of asking Santa for either the rose or white Venus if I can find out a little more about them. At $239, this would likely be my only pen in that price range, so I'd love to hear from those who've used one.

I really, really like the pink marbled resin, but I'm not loving the darker nib on it. In general I like silver, but the pink resin is calling my name. (The pink one has rose gold plated trim but the nib is darker; the white has palladium plated trim.)

Help! I probably don't need to spend the $$$ on this, so either talk me out of it or be an enabler! Thanks

Look for reviews on the Michelangelo or current Van Gogh models - they're practically the same pen. Visconti occasionally mix palladium and steel nibs on the Michelangelo, so check that to give context to your review.

I have a steel nibbed Michelangelo "Back to Black" (M) which arrived with tines slightly misaligned. After correcting that, though, it's been lovely and smooth. I'm a big fan of the magnetic cap.

The pink version of the Venus is quite pretty. I like the bronzed nib; it's quite unique. If you're not a fan of the nib color, the white is nice too, but IMO lacks the personality of the pink version.

Thanks! I've read lots of reviews on the Van Gogh (love the Self Portrait edition), and a few on the Michelangelo. Just can't find any specifically on the Venus.

I agree about the white marbled Venus. it's lovely, but looks a bit cold and just doesn't quite come up to the rose one. (I'm very partial to pretty shades of pink.) I do agree the bronzed nib is very unique; I've just got to convince myself it's "pretty." LOL

I do think I'd like the magnetic cap, too. And I visited Florence a couple of years ago, so that makes the Visconti pens kind of special, in a manner of speaking. I hadn't discovered fountain pens then, but what a great souvenir one would have been.

For $239, I'd be upset if the nib needed a fix. I'm not knowledgeable enough to tinker with them, and certainly wouldn't want to attempt to modify one that cost that much. Also, it's not helping that no one here has replied who actually has a Venus. If none of you like it well enough to buy one, hmmm...maybe I shouldn't either? Oh, dear...

I suppose I should pacify myself with the new Metro Retro in gray houndstooth that should arrive shortly. Almost as good as a Visconti, right? B) And the new has hardly worn off my wonderful TWSBI 580 stub.

Venus owners??

Thanks again!

Try posting on the Italian regional forum.

There may well be Venus owners on there who don't frequent this part of the forum.

I have 3 Van Goghs and a Michaelangelo. I think they're all excellent pens but a significant portion of every pen is subjective. You need to try it for yourself as you may not like or prioritize the same things that I do. I would recommend, before spending that much money, that you try the pen in a bricks and mortar store. If you're not near such a store, consider planning a special trip to your nearest fountain pen show.

Thanks, but I'm not near a fountain pen store nor a show, so those really aren't practical options for me.

Maybe I'll pass for now. This addiction is getting out of hand anyway. LOL

  • 1 year later...

Here I am back after a year. My very generous daughter gave me the 125th Anniversary Van Gogh Orchard in Blossom pen for Christmas, which she purchased while in Florence earlier this year. I love this pen!

I love it so much, I've been nosing around looking at more Visconti pens. I found the rose Venus, which was calling my name last year, on sale for $149 and just ordered it, M nib. When it arrives, I'll post my thoughts here. (My addiction has gotten worse.)

I also have a related ink question, but I'll ask it under a more appropriate topic title.

Hope all you FP folks had a blessed and merry Christmas!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
