Interesting. The one I was discussing was on ebay US and sold for US$499, the reserve price (there was only one bid).

Edited to remove comment about scale of price difference. They were similar.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just took delivery of my Diamond Black that I bought 2 weeks ago from Amazon.UK. It came with a generic but good quality Waterman box, not the Edson box, which is ok considering the price I got.

I'm trying to resist inking it immediately, because I got the impression Waterman US will only do a nib exchange if the nib is unused, so I can't talk about writing quality yet. But I just wanted to say that I am very impressed by the overall quality and finish of the pen. This is first impressions only and, of course, only the test of time will tell the truth, but when I put it next to my MB 149 the Edson seems to be of much higher quality (to my eye at least). I'm really impressed.

I think this will cause some problems to my wallet, as I will need to start looking carefully into the Watermans now! :P

Yes, you need the Edson Sterling Silver LE. :)

That would cost just about half of everything I own (granted, it isn't much), because the wife would file for divorce immediately!

Indeed - I have that one. It is the second best of all the Edson range, IMHO.

Which one is THE best?

IMHO, this one is:

The Boucheron. These days very expensive.

And, to be honest, I don't find it pretty, even if it has a beautiful blue. But those gold swirls ruin it, for me.

But, that's a matter of taste, of course.

I'm on the fence. I did bid recently for one but the price rocketed. They appear to be selling for £1000 to even £1500.

Yeah, I lucked out. I'd posted on the pen here and someone googled the model and found my post. He had received the pen as some sort of a sales merit gift and didn't want to keep it. He asked if I was interested in buying it and I made him an offer that he accepted, under $1,000. Looking at prices it seems that was a very good buy! That was a few years ago.

I while planning to make my collection thin was thinking of sparing my edson with fine nib. I was searching one with medium nib. I was also searching one with Medium nib at a reasonable price.

But now it seems that finding one with Medium nib at reasonabe price will be very very difficult.

BTW the gold coloured bottom of barrel is not looking good to my eyes. The ones without it were better -- a very personal view!!

If someone wants a fine nib section in exchange of a medium, kindly let me know. My pen is blue.

Thanks and regards to all.

Now that you mention it, I have to agree. The later style gold end makes it look a bit too 'Carene-ish'

When the collectors start hunting they will want (require) one of each. Not forgetting there will be fewer with the gold capping so the prices will be higher ;)

Sad, but probably true. Some collectors seem to have to have all the variants, even the less desirable ones.
