The Edson - Discontinuation

Left FPN

Recommended Posts

I sold my Edson. The section was getting scratched from capping and uncapping and that just bothered me too much.

I agree with you, that was one of the only and particularly irritating design flaw in the Edson's design!

As a result of this flaw, all three of my Edson's are simply used as display pieces. (I can't use it as a daily writer, as the fine scratches that develop irritate me too much!)

As far as I'm concerned, this pen as as pleasurable to look at as to write with, so having them on display, is good enough for me.

I always thought I would love to own an Edson, and I've tried very hard to buy one, for a long time, without any success, on eBay. They all go far to high for me. I've now given up the idea altogether. After all, it's a pen I've never seen, so how can I possibly miss it? :D

The Edson probably has one of the best looking nib sections designed by anybody ever!

If I were you, I wouldn't give up on the chance to own one of these great pens! :)

If you set up a continuous search (followed search) for one on eBay, a good one at the right price will eventually show up!

Easy solution to scratching - buy the sterling version. Doesn't seem to scratch,

The nib design is right up there with other striking examples like Sheaffer inlaid and is probably nicer than Waterman CF.

Crikey - looked at Ebay and there are no less than 4 Boucherons on the block - all for silly money, of course.

There are currently some on Amazon for £7.99 but no-one in their right mind would buy from the scammer advertising them :lticaptd:

For 246£ it would have been almost irresistible to me. But scratches from capping...

The scratches from capping are very fine and can very easily be polished out from time to time.

This is a truly beautiful pen that deserves a place in any collection!

I am perfectionist and because of the design flaw causing scratches this was obviously not a pen for me so I sold it. Without this flaw it felt like a great pen. Really well balanced. So if you are not sensitive to inlaid nib and grip section getting minor scratches from capping and uncapping , go for it.

Oh, no! I missed the Sapphire one.

But I did grab a Black, which I had the nib changed to Stub (must be a medium Stub, since it's not too broad).

It writes like a dream. I wish I had all four basic ones - alas, it is not going to happen: they're too expensive for me.

As for the scratches, I don't really notice anything in mine (I'm also a perfectionist. A good solution for this, in which concerns pens, was to get into the vintage ones. You learn to ignore minor scratches very quickly  ). In any case, I have yet to see a pen, from any manufacturer, that will not get minor scratches from normal use.

All this talk about the Edson makes me want to go home and ink mine.

Even easier solution: Don't post your pen. The Edson is a big and heavy pen and doesn't need to be posted. Even makes the pen drag at the end.

Indeed, an Edson BP for under 10 Euro.

So, what would you get?

I think most get nothing, but some fake Safaris have been turning up.

+1 for this. I would never post a pen that didn't have to be posted. Kaweco Sport or Mb Boheme are the only pens I own that I post, and sometimes I even write with those unposted. :)

Edson is nearly a perfect pen, except two design flaws:

- capping will cause tiny scratches. Quite annoying.

- Nib sealant drying under hot environment (or just ageing?) and the nib falls apart from the feed and section. I got one with this problem (picture shown). You can see a big gap between the nib and section.

Force, you just let me remember the time there were 3 Blue Edsons in Amazon warehouse deal. I couldn't believe in my eyes so refreshing the page several times. After realising it's a steal, I grabbed 2 of them. Although they were Warehouse deal (opened box, used items), they're actually new. Till now it's the best decision I've made in my life.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
