A Very Water Resistant Purple Ink, Which Is Fairly Wet-- Please Advise

I recently bought a new bottle of Noodler's Purple Ink. I love the color, and want to love the ink, but everything I write I need to be as water resistant as possible. This ink isn't. Would like to trade this very nearly full bottle of purple but don't know if there is such a thing as really almost bulletproof purple which is on the deep/darker side.

Thanks so much in advance for any thoughts on this.

Sailor Storia Magic Purple? its a bit of a luxury price for what it is but it is said the inks on this line is mixable... maybe you can go into that route and add it Kiwaguro for extra blackness

or seiboku if you want more of a grape like color?

Hi,

Hmmm...

I have little experience with Purple inks, so please take that into account.

Depending on your notion of Purple - a blend of Blue and Red - kindly consider Noodler's Kung Te-Cheng and/or Pasternak.

I was not taken with Pasternak when I did an Ink Review. I found it more than a bit fussy.

However, NKTC has a fairly solid reputation for performance, and is within range of Purple.

You might consider conjuring a blend of those inks: both are cellulose-reactive inks, so I don't foresee huge problems, though any blending requires vigilance.

If you find NKTC too dark, dilution with a bit of [distilled] water might be a way forward.

Kindly consider pairing those inks with a pen that is very easy to clean-up.

I have to always default to R & K's Scaribosa If I want a have a water resistant purple. As stated by Sandy, Kung Te Cheng is also viable except for the cleanup issue. To get your pen squeaky clean ( metaphorically speaking here ) takes some effort after using KTC. It simply doesn't not want to leave the underside of the nib.

Scaribosa flushes and rinses clean relatively easy and if it being an iron gall ink doesn't bother you, go for that.

KWZI #17R - Violet #4 Reformulated - if you can convince Konrad to make it again.

I think Le Reine Mauve is also water proof? I'm not sure I remember. It's not one of my favorites, but others like it a lot.

Okay, I love this one, but I rarely it because it stains and it's sort of a pain.

Concord Grape.

So, I saw you have posted another similar thread. Have you tried any of the samples?

Hi Amber

I only go to try a few samples. Not been on the forum for a while. Long story but in and out of hospital a few times but now that things are quieting down some I want to get back to writing with fountain pens.

I think Concord Grape looks great to me, along with North African Violet for purples.

Still undecided on black.

Sailor Shigure is a nicely lubricated dark purple: not fully waterproof but it has very good water resistance.

plus one for R and K Scabiosa. I love it, well behaved, great shading, waterproof. I used it for years as a practicing attorney. Unlike certain noodlers inks (looking at you, bay state) it never ruined any pen of mine, vintage or modern. I also like its blue black cousin, Salix.

R and K sounds good except for dryness. I tend do use my pens several times a week and the wetter ones I have found to not dry out in the pen. I love a smooth gliding feel when I write.

Scabiosa as well.

It may be a dry (but smooth-feeling) ink when writing with it, but not to the extent of drying up in feeds, etc, from my experience.

call me Hegel's Advocate (see what I did there), but neither Salix nor Scabiosa have been dry for me in any pen with a nib greater than around .6 mm, and very seldom in smaller ones, though it has happened.

It's a great ink and one purple I use. It's considered one of the eternal inks, so it should last until whenever.

It is a bit dry to me, but I'd say it's overall normal.
