Twsbi 1.5 Stub Nib For Mini Discontinued...

Found out the hard way that the 1.5mm stub nib for the Mini is discontinued. Asked Goulet Pens about it (there was still a pic up of it, but no way to select it in the dropdown!) since I was trying to order it and got a response that they are discontinued.

So I did what any other panic-stricken "gotta have it no matter what" crazed nib seeker would do: searched eBay.

Whew! There are still some for sale direct from TWSBI, but if you've been on the fence about getting this nib (or any TWSBI 1.5 stub), I would jump on it sooner as opposed to later. I got shipping confirmation this morning and hope to be writing with it by next Friday. This will make a lovely addition to my current 1.1 nib for my Mini...

Anyway, thought I would post a heads up. This 1.5 stub may not be a best seller, but I'm sad to see it go. I wish more companies would make nibs like this (looking at you Pelikan)...

If I'm not wrong - TWSBI has discontinued their 1.5 stubs for a while.

But hey, if the Taiwan factory still has stocks, the retailers will carry them.

It was discontinued due to poor sales - perhaps it was no longer worth TWSBI's time.

I lament the loss of variety in Pelikan nibs also - I felt that was one of its selling points. At least Lamy still has a 1.5mm stub.

I guess the slow sales don't really surprise me...but its still unfortunate. I saw the 1.5 listed on Goulet's site about 2 months ago or so; thought about picking it up then, but didn't. Glad I didn't wait around too much longer to revisit or I might have missed out completely. This makes me wonder if the 1.1 will get discontinued at some point too...

Looking at current trends, I don't think so. There's still a demand for 1.1 stubs - and enough (for now) for TWSBI to deem it worth carrying.

Haven't heard that the 1.1 will be discontinued - but who knows, maybe some time in the future everyone decides they don't want to use stubs and stop buying them.

I doubt that will happen though - the stub is a nice way to introduce line variation, without a killer price. Adds a little flair to the writing, so why not.

I highly doubt that 1.1 mm stubs will be discontinued along with 1.5. There is still a huge following of stub nibs and I think that the 1.1 mm stub might actually be the most widely sought out TWSBI nib! Of course this is just speculation. I wouldn't be worried about our precious stub nibs though. :)

Thanks for the heads up, guys...I've been putting off buying one cuz I thought they'd always be around. Foolish me. Just nabbed one on Amazon.

I had one and TBH it was too wide for me for any practical use. I suspect it's a niche product in an already narrow market.

My 1.1 however I like a lot.

I had heard that all of the TWSBI 1.5 mm stubs were being discontinued. I have one for the Vac 700, I guess I should get the matching nib units for the other models that they made the 1.5 mm stubs for. I hope that the nib unit for the Mini will work with the Vac Mini, too.

Current Daily Carry: Pilot Custom 743 with 14k Posting nib (Sailor Kiwa-Guro), Sailor 1911L Realo Champagne with 21k Extra Fine nib (Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu). Platinum Century 3776 Bourgogne (Diamine Syrah), Nakaya Portable Writer Midori with 14k Extra Extra Fine nib (Lamy Peridot), Pilot Vanishing Point Stealth Black with Extra Fine nib unit (Pilot Blue Black), a dozen Nockco DotDash index cards of various sizes and a Traveler's Notebook.

That would be really nice if the Mini nibs worked in the Vac Mini. I had been waiting to buy a TWSBI until the Vac Mini came out, but I got tired of waiting, did a "table flip" and bought the Mini Classic. Its been an up and down honeymoon, but at the moment I'm loving it, especially with the 1.1 nib. At this point I'm kind of hoping the Vac Mini doesn't appeal to me for some reason so it will be easier to resist buying it...I've got too many pens as it is. I'm not ruling it out though...

Apparantly, it's already too late to pick up a 5x0 1.5mm stub nib. :wallbash: I guess the mini has jumped up the priority list a bit for me.

Oh that sucks man...did you check ebay? That's where I found my 1.5 stub for the Mini...

Edit: Oh, and I've received my 1.5 and its great! No adjustment needed -- it writes wet and starts right away. I *might* smooth the nib a bit with some Mylar sheets to get that "melted butter on glass" feeling though...

I'd never had anything larger than a M until recently, but am expanding my nib sizes-- onwards and upwards! I immediately loved the Lamy 1.5 that I picked up last week, and so when I saw this I jumped on finding one for my TWSBI 580.

Ended up just getting a whole 'nother 580 for the nib, but that's the beauty of interchangeable nib units, and no one really stays on "the wagon" anyways, right? Not with all this great enabling to be had here on FPN! ;)

My wagon left town and I've yet to catch up to it, LOL. I'm scared I'll buy more ink than I can use (before it goes bad) and more pens than I can feasibly appreciate using in a rotation, but nibs? Ah, now there is something I can almost always justify more of!! Why WOULDN'T I want 3 or 4 nib options per pen???? LOL.

Good news! If you store your ink properly it doesn't rot! I have most of a bottle of Levenger Gemstone Green I bought in 2002, it's still usable and looks the same as it did when I first bought it. :)

Apparently my mini grew legs and ran away somewhere  (naturally, right after I'd gotten a B nib unit to replace the M it came with). Since some places (Amazon) seem to still have some with 1.5 nibs in stock, I may just get that as my replacement-- though of course that means getting a replacement B nib, as well. Grrrrrrrrr.

Yes, I know ink can last a very long time if properly used and maintained. I'm hoping I didn't make any noob mistakes in the beginning that might somehow compromise my inks in the future. I'm better about caring for my inks now...

Man, that stinks. Sorry for the loss. I've been contemplating a B nib for the Mini as well, just to have. I usually use the 1.1 most though. And I met a woman at a pen show that had a Mini with a B in it and we wrote side by side with my 1.1 and there wasn't a whole lot of difference...so I've been stalling the B nib purchase. Might not get any use to be honest...

Definitely pick up a 1.5 while you can, I love mine! Looking forward to doing some Christmas cards with it this year!

According to SBRE Brown the TWSBI #5 feed simply can't keep up with the 1.5 stub. It will skip a lot. Maybe this is why it is discontinued. I would look at Edison or Meisternibs (which is owned by Edison, but their nibs does not have the Edison branding) stubs if the need arises.

Sorry my mistake. This is a 1.1 stub but I do remember some reports on TWSBI stubs on the classic being dry and skips a lot. However don't quote me on that.
